We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
So I've been streaming on Twitch for quite some time now and it's been fun trying out different games and making new friends! I was also fortunate to become a Twitch Affiliate only a month after I started streaming!
One perk of being an Affiliate is you can create custom rewards for your chat to redeem with channel points. Since I'm an artist I thought I'd reward my loyal viewers with some free artwork!
We're still on our series of me sharing art pieces that my chat redeemed using channel points since I got flooded with requests when I first put in this channel reward so I was busy for quite some time.
This next request was actually by one of my moderators on Twitch, who goes by Nightsy! He's actually an artist as well and has also done quite a few art pieces for me so it felt only right that I return the favour, even if he did redeem it for 150K channel points.
Anyway, his exact words for the request were “try to draw me with Razor and Gorou” who are characters in Genshin Inpact. Here's what Razor and Gorou look like in Genshin:

Razor has a sort of persona when he uses his ultimate that is a wolf that makes him really powerful, and obviously Gorou is a fox boy so they're all kind of furry bois. Since Nightsy's OC is a wolf it makes sense to draw him with his fellow doggo buds.

So the idea I had for this was pretty simple; it's basically Razor, Gorou and Nightsy together like they're taking a selfie or a group photo in front of Nightsy's favourite place in Genshin which is Dragonspine - the tallest mountain in the world of Genshin, aka Teyvat.
And since I was drawing all the furry bois, it didn't feel right to leave out the cutest one of all - Taroumaru, who is a cute ninja Shiba in the game!

He was easy to draw compared to Razor and Gorou of course so I didn't mind including him as well although it meant a little more work. He's too cute though I couldn't exclude him!
So this was my first sketch of Razor, Taroumaru and Gorou! I went with a chibi style of course since it's easier but I wanted to include as many details as I could in their outfits to make it accurate.
The major problem I had was definitely with drawing Nightsy himself! This is what his OC looks like and his art style is very different compared to mine so it was kinda difficult emulating it.
Initially I thought of drawing him in the same chibi style as Razor and Gorou because I thought they looked pretty cute. But it didn't work out so well. His head looked way too big.
Then I followed a reference from some other picture I found and it still didn't look right. He looked more like a sly fox than his wolf.
Finally, I settled on tracing one of the WIPs he shared on our discord server. It was actually pretty perfect and since it was drawn by him it looked the best.
So eventually, this was the full sketch!
And after some painstaking outlining, we get this:
And after cleaning up the lines and doing some adjustments, this lineart!
I thought it looked pretty good as it is, but it was only until I started colouring did I realise I missed out on a lot of "little" details, like Razor's hair! But more on that in the next post. For now, here's the timelapse up to this point:
