Art Attack! #21: A Comic for Doggos! 🐢

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my paintings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

So last month, I shared a cat comic I did based on a poem I found on reddit:

I really liked how this came out, and I've been wanting to do another one but all the poems I found online were too long and didn't fit the 4 frame comic style I had going. Until, one of my friends came up with a simple one on her instagram!

I asked if I could use her caption and she said yes! So I went to sketching right away!

For the style I kept it pretty similar to the previous comic I did; modelling the dogs after those in ぼくとわんこ (boku to wanko) - the dog collector app! Which is basically the dog version of Neko Atsume, and they have such cute doggies!

After browsing for some doggy poses, it was time to get sketching!

After some adjustments, I got my final sketch:

I tried to go for different breeds of dogs to really encompass all dogs like the poem suggests, but there was only so many pictures of boku to wanko I could find. I think it looked alright though. I didn't want to crowd each of the frames either anyway.

And of course I went for King Tubbs for the last panel. He just seems perfect for that role anyway. He is indeed a cat btw, from Neko Atsume:

Anyway, it was time to outline!

Since I did this on a cheap sketchbook, I was kinda limited to markers and colour pencils for colours. I did all markers for the previous comic, but with this I wanted different shades for the doggos so I mixed it up and used both!

Where I had the correct colours for markers I used that, and if I didn't I used colour pencils instead. And after that was just another quick outline.

Here are the panels in their final form:

And here's how the comic turned out:

I thought this actually came out really well. The variety of colours was good, there was a nice contrast, and all the doggos looked really cute! Granted, you could see the marker and pencil lines but that can't be helped. I did have some trouble with sketching the guard dogs' uniforms so I'm glad they turned out okay.

I really liked this piece and I would be happy to do more simple comics like these if I could find more poems! Unfortunately my literature writing days have long gone so I don't think I have the capacity to write any more poems. So if you have any suggestions let me know and I might just turn it into a cute comic! :3

Thanks so much for reading!
