Art Attack! #23: Corgi with a (flower) Crown! 🐢🌸

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my paintings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

I think my favourite animal is most probably a dog; in fact I have a whole album (with more than 700 pictures) in my phone of cute and silly doggos!
And one of my absolute favourite dog breeds is a corgi because they're so cute and derpy! Look at this one named Gen:

Since I like corgis so much it only made sense for me to do a corgi piece. I was searching online and found this really nice print:

It was just the right ratio of realistic : drawing so it was perfect for me to try and replicate since it was my first time drawing doggos in this style. That and it looked simple enough too.

This was my sketch:

Obviously mine was gonna be a lot bigger since I was using a whole sketchbook page and I was gonna be putting me on my wall, but I think I managed to scale it pretty well.

Time to outline!

3.jpg

I didn't use my usual waterproof markers for this since I wanted thinner lines. So I was kinda scared it would smudge since I was gonna be using watercolours.

Which is why I decided to paint the background first! πŸ˜…

I decided to go a light gradient background since the corgi was the main focus of the painting.

Next it was finally time to paint the corgi!

Thankfully the lines were thin so it didn't smudge too much. And the smudges kinda gave more weight to the colours to emulate the fur so it wasn't too bad.

I finished up the flower crown which made me think maybe I shouldn't have outlined the leaves since the one tendril I didn't outline actually looked pretty good. But oh well. The lines aren't that thick so it didn't really matter.

After adding some final details with the thin marker once again, this was the final piece:

Those added details made such a big difference. I think the external lines could've been more fur-like like in the print but I didn't want to go over them again because it would've been too dark otherwise.

Overall, I think this was a very successful first attempt at painting a corgi! The colours and the details were really well done, and I didn't make too many mistakes other than some very slight smudging.

I really liked how this piece turned out and can't wait to put it up in my new living room next time!

Thanks for reading!
