Art Attack! #53: A Happy Camper! 🚐

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

So last week, I shared my first dip into the vast ocean that is digital art! Sean very generously gifted me a brand new iPad Pro as an early birthday present and I got to work on it straight away! I started with something simple; colouring in my friend's tattoo and I got this:

It was really cool to try out digital art and I was excited to start drawing pieces from scratch, but I wanted to get more practise in so I decided to choose a simple landscape piece to imitate. And I was stumped on what to draw until I saw this cute poster in the marketplace of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp!

Pocket Camp is probably my most played mobile games since I don't really play games on my phone, but it's a good game to just procrastinate for a bit, or to play when you're bored.

Anyway, I wanted to try out different drawing apps, so I did this piece on Adobe Sketch (which actually kinda sucks btw, don't use it).

So I started with the frame and background first, establishing the different terrains. I think I might've put the land a little too high actually but oh well.

Then I realised the tent was a little too huge and had to resize it. And I sketched out the camper!

I decide to give the camper a little face since it looked like it kinda had a face to me, and I thought it'd look so cute!

Colouring in the sides of the camper to give it a little more depth. I probably should've made it darker tbh.

Eventually I got this! I think I might've screwed up the trees and bushes though.

And then I realised I missed out on a few details, like the flag on the tent and a shadow under the camper, so we get this:

It was definitely tough to get the shapes nice and smooth, as you can see. Adobe Sketch and Fresco were kinda unhelpful in that regard. The hardest were definitely the wheels. I needed them to look round but sharp from the front, if that makes sense. I also wasn't sure about the gradient since the poster in-game is kinda neutral, but I thought it would give the piece more depth, but then the shadow looked a little out of place. Ah well.

I think overall this piece looks alright. The camper looks cute, the colours are nice, and it looks about the same as the original. I posted this piece on the Pocket Camp subreddit and got a lot of nice comments on it so I guess it looks good!

And most importantly, I learned more about digital art and knew not to use those free Adobe apps. Definitely excited to work on more digital art in the future!

Thanks so much for reading!
