Art Attack! #57: An Imposter is Among Us ඞ

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

So back at the end of September, a little after Among Us started getting traction, my gaming bros and I decided to try it out ourselves! But since there were only 3-4 of us we had to play with randos. None of us had ever played it before but we'd all seen a couple of Youtube videos. It was still kinda difficult since we were playing with randos and had to use the in-game chat. But it was a fun experience nonetheless.

Anyway, in one of the final games there was quite an iconic moment where I was the imposter along with a rando and two of the four of us (Sean and Dean) died consecutively. Naturally Teddy was pretty distraught to find them dead which inspired this piece! Btw it was the rando imposter who killed them not me. I was just sabotaging, because I'm a scaredy cat.

The chat was pretty funny too, because there were Fs in chat when Teddy said the ones who died were his best buds. I regret not taking a screenshot of the chat but at least that moment is now immortalised in this piece!

So here's my initial sketch:

I wasn't really sure how to draw my position, but I figured I try to draw myself sneaking around the corner. I had to find some pictures to reference but eventually I got this sketch instead, which I thought looked so much better!

Then it was time to clean up the sketch and outline!

And then time to start colouring! I used the game screenshots and assets for colour sourcing, which made things a lot easier! I was actually surprised at how many different colours there are, especially in the mask itself.

I chose different outfits for all of us to give it more variation of colours and also to be more accurate to our in-game outfits as well.

I was thinking of which background to use, and I decided to just go with the usual background from the Skeld. Or at least something similar. I wasn't sure how to make the ghostly effect since I ended up with quite a number of layers, but thankfully I managed to combine them all and adjust the transparency. Man, the wonders of digital art!

And after colouring in the background, I got this! I decided to add a smirk and a face shadow to give that evil aura look. But then I realised that the floor line was cutting across the Among Us characters, so I had to rearrange my layers.

And finally, I got this! I think for a first attempt it was pretty good, especially the characters. I tried to make them look like us irl (except for me that is) specifically with the hairstyles.

Overall, I thought this piece was pretty well done! The perspective on the wall was a little off but other than that I'd say it looks good! The colours are nice, the ghostly effect can be seen, and it really captures the essence of Among Us, I think.

Since that first sessions, we actually wound up playing Among Us quite a bit, but with other friends instead of randos. It's definitely more fun with friends especially when you use voice chat on discord. I'm actually pretty bad at Among Us and I always get nervous whenever I get imposter but it's still fun regardless, and it made for a lot of fun times during covid times.

Looking forward to playing the new map next time and maybe playing it on stream next time! Yes, I started streaming on Twitch! I normally stream Genshin Impact blind (i.e. I play it for the first time live on stream), but I also play Life is Strange and Terraria with chat! Come hangout!

Thanks so much for reading!
