Art Attack! #59: Linktober 2020 - Companion! 🔺

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

So back in October 2020, I decided to participate in this artist challenge called Inktober! If you haven't heard of it before, Inktober is a challenge created by this artist named Jake Parker to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.

The Inktober prompts are typically Halloween-themed, and it's so interesting seeing all the different ideas artists have based on the same prompt!

So I only just learned about Inktober in late 2019 and unfortunately I missed most of it. But I did do a couple of the prompts like this piece for the prompt Ghost:

But then some drama happened when Jake Parker, the original creator, decided to copyright Inktober and artists who sold their Inktober pieces got sued! So many people decided to create their own versions of Inktober, which brings us to Linktober!

Obviously it's based on Link from The Legend of Zelda series, and all the prompts are based on the many different Zelda games! They also have different themes to the prompts too, like enemies only, or quest items! This was the general calendar:

Unfortunately I was still working on other pieces and was busy with a lot of stuff irl so I missed almost half of Linktober.. But on the 20th, I figured better late than never! So I got to work.

For Companion, my first thought was Fi from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword! I've actually never played Skyward Sword before but I have watched a couple of Youtube playthroughs and I really loved her design!

Fi is the spirit residing in the Goddess/Master sword so she's technically been in all the Zelda games. But it's only in Skyward Sword that she actually appears in this form. She's also the tutorial character in Skyward Sword, which I think annoyed a lot of players, but I think she's alright, and her design is so cool! So I decided to draw her for this prompt!

It's difficult to replicate her colours on physical art, but thankfully inktober is just black and white, so I just had to do the outline. I wanted to include the Master Sword as well and I ended up with this sketch:

Time to outline!

And after cleaning up:

It's a little rough, because truth be told I actually had to rush this to complete it before midnight. I tried my best though. And I think you can tell where I'm going with this. I'm not really good at drawing human-like characters so I think it's pretty good already.

I did do more Linktober prompts so look forward to those in the next couple of weeks!
Thanks for reading!
