Art Attack! #93: A Terrari-fic Proposal in Space! 🤵👰

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

This was back in late January 2021, and since our wedding anniversary was coming up in early February, I thought I'd draw a very special piece as an anniversary gift to Sean!

So in January 2019, Sean surprised me with the most wholesome and sweetest gift - a Choose Your Adventure book that he wrote himself which eventually led to a proposal! I kinda wished he had filmed the whole thing, but it was really sweet. We had actually already made plans to get married so a proposal wasn't even necessary but just the thought he put into this was so adorable and wholesome.

Anyway, the first thing he gave me was this very cute book! The cover is a bunch of different doggos and there's so many corgis and pommies on it! I absolutely loved it already!

Inside the book was an elaborate story of me going on an adventure with a bunch of our plushie friends with branching paths that eventually led to... a custom world Sean created in Terraria! If you're unfamiliar, Terraria is an action-adventure sandbox game developed by Re-Logic. The easiest way I can describe it is a 2D version of Minecraft.

Basically just like in Minecraft, you can build anything in Terraria. And while we're not very good builders, there is a vast world to explore. And I actually sank over 100 hours into this game at some point. It was so addicting just exploring the underground!

Anyway, there wasn't much in the custom world Sean created since it was new, but he made us put on the wedding outfits you can get in the game! And then we flew up to a place in space where he had constructed a very simple and cute shelter that was basically the site of the proposal!

There were a bunch of harpies flying around and luckily none of them got into our shelter, but it was so cute! I was speechless. But of course I said yes! It was silly for him to even ask since we had already made bookings for the wedding (which was going to be in about 2 weeks at the time)! But it was such a wholesome gesture and one of the best surprises he's ever given me!

We used to see a bunch of our friends' elaborate proposals on social media, and it was always made into a big deal. I wasn't expecting anything since we had already made plans for the "wedding" we were gonna have (which was just going to be the ceremony), and I always wished it wasn't going to be awkward or anything with an elaborate proposal. I guess that just goes to show how much Sean knows me; it was simple, there was no one else around but us, and it was just as lovely as anything.

So in honour of this, I decided to commemorate the proposal by recreating it and drawing a version on Procreate! I actually wanted to draw us a little more cartoony-looking, but after I traced a vector of a groom proposing to a bride, I thought it looked pretty nice and kept it that way.

I did change the shelter and made it into a heart-shaped glass dome though. It was kinda difficult to draw the glass effect but I think it looks pretty decent! I did look up some youtube tutorials, but more on that in the next post! I also traced the harpies and Eye of Cthulu since it was pretty difficult to draw them otherwise.

Here's the timelapse:

I wasn't really sure about the bridge, and if I could change something it would definitely be the fireworks but I honestly wouldn't know how. I also ran out of space for the balloons which I actually did want to put in. But overall, I think this piece turned out the best I could have hoped for! And it was also pretty well received when I posted it on the subreddit! There were a bunch of wholesome comments too!

Our second wedding anniversary is coming up soon so I'm thinking of what I should draw next! Let me know if you have any ideas!

Thanks so much for reading!
