Choices! What will it be? #42 [Storm]

Introduction

A storm is an atmospheric condition. It is a strong wind that's always accompanied by cloudy sky, rain and most times with thunder and lightening. Storms can be disastrous, dangerous for people on land, and air and even in the sea.

The experience of a storm on land

I remember as a little girl growing up in my little village. Once upon a time there was this troubling storm that erupted in my village one night. The storm was disastrous to the point of falling down trees and other plants in the farms, pulling down electricity polls and as far as removing the roofing of people's houses. When the entire village woke in the morning, it was a sad situation that those whose houses were destroyed were left speechless and some crying.

Even recently, last year in my city, precisely Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It was thrown into oblivion last year when a certain storm and rain destroyed people's houses and the electrical poll fell and killed someone. It was a terrific one that had happened in recent times.

Where I come from, I've seveally heard of how people send thunderstorms to people if they offend them, especially adulterous men.

Storm In the air

Often times, I've heard of a storm causing turbulence in the air while the plane is in motion. According to my personal research, most aircraft are built to withstand storms. Though, it is advisable for aircraft to avoid flying during storms in order to avoid losing control.

The experience of a storm in the sea

Both my parents happened to be sea users as both of them deal in the fishing business. I have severely heard them shared stories about how they were caught up in a storm in the midst of the sea while travelling at sea and how the boat almost capsized.

That reminds me of the story of how Jesus stilled the storm while crossing on a boat in Galilee according to the Bible in Luke 8:22-24 and Matthew 8:23-25.

However, apart from the fact that a storm is a natural atmospheric condition, a storm can also be used to describe a person's troubling condition or life situation. When people are in trouble or facing difficulties in life, I've heard people say to them "the storm will be over." Or using the saying, "after the storm comes sunshine"

That reminds me of one of the hit tracks by the once famous hip-hop star, R-kelly, "The Storm is over". Do you know that I got obsessed with the song when I realised and fully understood the lyrics of that song? I mean I could play the song on my DVD player then more than ten times a day. I could sing it as many times as possible because it gave me hope and comfort that all was going to be fine, especially as my family was going through a very troubling situation at that time.

Are you facing any storm in your life right now? It could be sickness, failure, disappointment, lack, betrayal etc. Never mind, it's never the end of life. Just believe that God is able to still that storm.

So I live you with R-kelly's "Storm is over," just believe it's over.

I was in a tunnel
And couldn't see the light
And whenever I'd look up
I couldn't see the sky
Sometimes when I'm standin'
It seems like I done walked for miles

And my heart could be cryin'
Dead in the middle of a smile
But then I climbed the hills and saw the mountains
I hollered help 'cause I was lost
Then I felt the strong wind
Heard a small voice sayin'

The storm is over
(The storm is over now)
And I can see the sunshine
(Somewhere beyond the clouds)
I feel Heaven, yeah (Heaven is over me)
Come on and set me free, whoa (oh-oh-oh)

*Now in the midst of my battle
All hope was gone
Downtown in a rushed crowd and felt all alone, mhm mm
And every now and then I felt like I would lose my mind

I've been racing for years and still no finish line, oh-oh
But then I climbed the hills and saw the mountains (mountains)
I hollered help 'cause I was lost
Then I felt the strong wind
And then a small voice sayin'
The storm is over

(The storm is over now)
And I can see the sunshine
(Somewhere beyond the clouds)
I can feel Heaven, yeah (Heaven is over me)
Come on and set me free, whoa
