Many people worked on the concept of television in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. But on January 26, 1926, John Logie Baird of the United Kingdom demonstrated to the world the first live working television system. Philo Taylor Farnsworth invented the first electronic television in 1927. Those days that was called as 'Idiot Box'. It was originally designed to display moving black-and-white images. However, as technology advanced and innovation continued, color was introduced into the images.

Although the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) broadcast the world's first television program in 1936, in Sri Lanka television was first broadcast on April 13, 1979, from 43 years later.

I recall that in Sri Lanka, black and white television was introduced first, followed by color television. Independent Television Network (ITN) is Sri Lanka's first and most important television channel. However, the time passed, the channel of television changed. More and more channels were broadcast with different specialists.

I can remember, it was my dad who brought the television to my village first. Those days, many people in my neighborhood flocked to my house to watch television, because it was a magic device for us. My father converted our visiting room into a movie theater, removing all of the furniture to provide the people with the necessary accommodations. Because there was no electricity in my area at the time, we watched television using a lorry battery. Later, when electricity was available in our area, it became very common, and most of the people bought a television. People thought it was harmful because the kids spent the majority of their time watching television rather than studying.

The invention of television gave us various benefits. It aided to provide a low-cost form of entertainment to the common man. Furthermore, it keeps us up to date on world events. It is now possible to obtain news from all over the world. Similarly, television provides educational programs that help us learn more about science, wildlife, and other topics.

In my childhood days, I remember watching the Royal wedding of Princess Diana on television. According to my knowledge, the wedding was broadcast on television in every country. It was a magic experience for us to watch beautiful Princess Diana were a long gown with a beautiful wale. Many people gathered at the palace to wish the couple and was placed flower bouquets all over the palace grounds. That event will remain on in my memory forever, because it was the first time we witnessed such a wedding ceremony.

Furthermore, television encourages people to learn new skills. They also have a variety of programs that show motivational speaker speeches. It broadens our knowledge of various sports, national events, and other topics. It also helps people relax their minds and bodies.

While television has many advantages, it also has some disadvantages. We will go over how television is corrupting the minds of people.

We can see how television broadcasts inappropriate content that promotes various social evils such as violence, eve-teasing, and others.

Secondly, it is harmful to our health. Our eyesight will deteriorate if we spend hours watching television. Our posture will also cause neck and back pain.

It also makes people addicted. People become addicted to their televisions and avoid social interaction. This has an impact on their family as well as social life. This addiction also puts them at risk.

Fake information, which circulates on news channels and other platforms, is the most dangerous of all. Many media outlets are now promoting government propaganda and misinformation citizens.

Conclusion

Science is beneficial in many cases, but it can also be dangerous if not used correctly. The same is true for television. At home, the television is our best friend. We can't imagine life without television. However, excessive use can endanger a child's future and have a negative impact on the family background. Parents should limit their children's TV viewing time. Regardless of television, children should spend more time outside playing.
