🍁Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim🍁
Starting with greetings and respect. I am @jebanikajeba, from Bangladesh. Today, I am sharing with you about one of the most common, famous, traditional, delicious, and one of my favourite pithas of Bangladesh, the Vapa pitha and its recipe.
Winter means pitha season, and Bangladeshi tradition cannot be imagined without pitha. Although there are different types of pitha depending on the region, Vapa pitha is very popular among the people of all areas. Pitha is not only fun to eat but also fun to make pitha. I am sharing a very easy and hassle-free recipe of Vapa Pitha.
Ingredients for making Vapa Pitha: |
---|
Ingredients: | Quantity: |
---|---|
Rice powder | 500 gram |
Jaggery | 200 gram |
Coconut | 100 gram |
Boiled milk | 220 gram |
Salt | As per taste |
Making Process: |

Step-1: After preparing all the ingredients, I first mix rice powder, salt and a little milk in a bowl and mix it well. It must be taken care that the rice powder mixed is neat.
Step-2: Then, the mixed rice powder should be sifted with the help of a sieve so that the rice powder comes out like refined semolina grains.
Step-3: Vapa pitha is made by steaming it completely. So I put a pot on the stove, filled half the pot with water, and covered the pot with a thin mesh cloth so that the steam came out through the mesh holes and made Vapa pitha.
Step-4: Then, put rice powder in a small bowl for pitha, put jaggery and coconut on it and cover it again with rice powder. I gave the Vapa pitha shape by gently pressing it with my hands.
Step-5:
Then, I covered the pot with a thin cloth and kept it upside down in the pot of hot water. And after 20 seconds, I slowly removed the bowl. Be careful not to break the pita while lifting the bowl.
Step-6:
Then I moved the bowl over the pitha, wrapped the cloth in one place, and covered it with a big lid so that the steam hit the pitha.
Step-7:
When the steamed pitha is soft, then the pitha is ready to be served. After steaming the pita for 4/5 minutes, I removed the lid and scoope out the pita with a spoon, and that's how I made all the Vapa pitha.
Winter means the celebration of Vapa Pithas across villages and towns. Women in villages and towns prepare Vapa Pithas in their homes when they get winter vibes. Besides, various types of winter pitha are sold, but Vapa pitha is more noticeable.
