On March 19, 2014, Alauddin Patwari and his wife, Irene Lima, an American expatriate, drowned in Kaptai Lake while visiting Rangamati. Personnel from the Navy, Police, Army, and Fire Service pulled their frozen bodies out of Kaptai Lake three days later. A husband and wife trying to survive and dying tragically in such a way is a rare occurrence. It was built on the initiative of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board to pay tribute to all the beloved people of the world with their love.
Love Point is located in Kaptai, Rangamati district of Chittagong Hill Tracts. It was built in the DC Bungalow "Polwell Nature Park" next to where the bodies of Alauddin and Irene Lima were found.
Nav Bikram Kishore Tripura, Secretary of Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Ministry, laid the foundation stone of Love Point on Saturday, January 16 2016, and Nav Bikram Kishore Tripura, Chairman Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board NDC, inaugurated Love Point on Thursday afternoon, November 29 2018.
After inaugurating the love point, Navva Vikram Kishore Tripura and his wife Anamika Tripura locked the love point. They threw the key into the water of Kaptai Lake to initiate the 'Love Lock' program of 'Love Point'.
It is to be noted that journalist Fazle Elahi proposed the construction of Love Point and Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Chairman Nav Bikram Kishore Tripura NDC's overall plan and Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board funded it.
