Achievement 3 @aderyn Task: Content Etiquette, plagiarism and social media concepts.

Hello Steemit and Stemians.

It is really nice to share something on Steemit and to read what others share. But as in most places, Steemit has etiquette. And following this etiquette is really important.

Why is it so important to observe etiquette? For example, when everyone shares photos on Instagram, they do not provide a source?

This is a very good question. Everyone can share the photos they want on Instagram and some other social media, that's true. Moreover, even if the photos they share belong to someone else, they do not indicate the source. But Steemit is a different platform than social media like Instagram. The content you write on Steemit can directly earn you money.

But are celebrities earning money by advertising paid ads on Instagram?

There are actually more than one answer to this question. We can say that the people we call famous on Instagram are people who have a lot of followers. And yes, they make money from the ads they do. But since the source of the advertisement is clear, there is no need to specify the source.

But you haven't given an exact answer to my question. In the non-advertising posts of the famous accounts on Instagram, the source is usually not specified. Reply?

Yes, it's okay if they post their own photos when they don't advertise. In fact, I do not know if it will be a problem if they share other people's photos or articles. But I know very well that this will lead to legal action. What I mean here is definitely not the sanctions that a social media site like Instagram will do. For example, in Turkey in social media, before the fat after a photo of her friends also share a photo sharing has weakened not legally free. Of course, people share, but if the shared person complains, there is a penalty. I do not know exactly what the punishment is, it is necessary to look at the constitution.

The concept of "Proof of Brain":

In Steemit, there is a concept of making money thanks to your brain. I said that Steemit is not like other social media. This is because you can earn money directly from the content you originally created. But of course this has its conditions and it will always happen.

You should definitely not share the articles written by others as your own. Of course you can also quote. But it is not possible to quote an entire article and cite a source. You can't call it original content if you already do so.

If we talk about the quote.

I want to give an example of an article I wrote about how I met Bitcoin a few days ago. Let's say you're writing an article describing how you met Bitcoin. But before writing this article, you did a little research. And as a result of this research, you came across my submission. You want to quote a few lines from my submission for your readers. Yes you can.

You can do it like this.

" After I transferred the $ 10 worth of Bitcoin to a Crypto Money Exchange, I just left it there and forgot. After about 4 years, I saw Bitcoin rising to $ 19,000 and I was very surprised. After being surprised for a short while, I was very depressed because if I continued what I did, I might even become a rich person today. When I entered the Stock Exchange Site to withdraw my money, I saw that I had about $ 200 and I was very happy." Source.

You copied and pasted the article you want to quote and specified the source next to it. That's it! If you quote and cite in this way, you will not be plagiarized.

Is it good to quote?

Yes of course it's good to quote. But as I mentioned it is good if you quote a small part of the article. If you share the entire article and say a quote, this may be plagiarism.

Quoting is definitely very useful for your blog. Your readers can get more information by visiting the sites you quoted. And that would be their liking. In addition, while your readers are preparing that article, they understand that you have been doing research on other websites. This way, your readers understand that you really care about what you write.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism literally means that a person uses what he sees from another person in his work as if it belongs to him without citing a source. Actually, we can call it a kind of theft. Stealing from another person's work.

In Turkey, there are different penalties for plagiarism. As a result of plagiarism by a university rector, he was first suspended from his profession for two months and then dismissed from the rectorate. And there are those whose titles have been dropped.

Common information known to everyone may not be considered plagiarism. For example, a sentence like "The European Union was established in the Netherlands on November 1, 1993" is not plagiarism. The most important concept about plagiarism is ideas. For example, if a doctorate on liver cancer does not quote a book written by a scientist or a doctor in his thesis and does not state this, it is plagiarism. Obviously this is content theft. And in Steemit plagiarism and unfair earnings are not allowed.

Using images and citing sources:

If you use your images in Steemit, you do not need to specify a source. But if you use a photo of someone else, you have to cite the source. You should know that they have copyright for a photo owned by someone else.

There are sites where people who love to take pictures share photos for free and paid. You can share photos from these sites. But you have to specify the source of the photo you shared. I usually share if I find photos from Pixabay. So I decorate my articles with images.
