THE BASS GUITAR

The bass guitar also referred to as electric bass or symply bass Is the lowest pitched member of the guitar family. It is a plucked string instrument, similar in appearance and construction to an electric or acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and a longer scale length and the popular ones vary from 4-6 string bass guitars(4 string, 5strings and 6 strings).

There exist my types of bass guitars. These varieties came up due to different genres of musics in the world. Locally, we have 3 types of bass guitars namely: 4 string bass, 5string bass and the 6 string bass

As for me as a bass player, I’m more familiar with the 4 string bass guitar and the 5 string bass guitar these are the two most popular bass guitars found in bamenda. 6 strings are relatively scarce in bamenda. You’ll find very few people in possession of this instrument. I do not have a bass guitar yet and I’m hoping before this year runs to an end, I’ll be in possession of a 5 string bass guitar.

Type	Description
4 string bass	Being the most common type of bass guitar, it has 4 strings and these strings are named E A D and G. With the E being the thickest and G being the thinnest
5 string bass	The strings are E A D G and B. With the thickest string being E and thinnest being B. Reason for this addition is to increase resonance
6 string bass	Strings consist E A D G B and E with a higher E at the thinnest string and a lower E at the thickest string
