Steemit uses private keys as a form of security instead of password. These sets of keys serves various purpose and its important to acess whatever features you want to, depending on which. Making it more difficult for a hacker to breach unless we are to give it out ourself or carelessly reveal it.
The master password- it is of vital importance we secure this in an offline vault.
This master password is used to derive all keys for your account. If one was to misplace this key then someone can steal your account and all tokens in it. This password is the one being generated at the time of registration.
After the master password we now have a set of 4 keys.
Posting key- the posting key allows accounts to post, comment, edit, vote, reesteem, and follow or mute other accounts.
Active key- the active key is meant for transfering funds, power up/ down transactions, coverting steem dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and avatar, and placing a market order.
Owner key- It is the most powerful key because it can change any key of an account, including the owner key itself. It should be used only when necessary.
Memo key- this key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transfering funds inorder to encrypt a memo, use the pound/# sign befor it.
