Plagiarism is cheating or stealing. It often has to do with using the idea of another person or another's words without acknowledging the author or obtaining his or her permission, that is plagiarism.

When we steal another person's words or idea without acknowledging the person; this is a crime punishable by law, that is the central idea of what plagiarism is. Depending on where this act is committed it attracts different punishment i believe.

We have various types of plagiarism, they are Direct plagiarism, self plagiarism, mosaic plagiarism and accidental plagiarism.

Direct plagiarism: As the image rightly explains, it has to do with a word for word transcription of a section of someones work withoutsource citing the source

Self-plagiarism: this deals with making use of our previous work as source. Yes, copying information from our previous work from which we had earlier been credited is a form of plagiarism and it also attracts its own punishment.

Accidental plagiarism: This is a type of plagiarism that happens when we fail to cite our source, and merely changes words in another paper but the whole meaning remains the same.

Mosaic plagiarism: Borrowing phrases from a source and not giving credit to the source, and often times misquote the source.
