Introduction

Hello, esteemed Steemians. I'm glad to be here again to proceed to Achievement 6. I've enjoyed a great stay here on Steemit, I've learned a lot of things that equipped me with the resources to have worked on previous achievements. Join me on this as I present my achievement 6, where I will be talking about Understanding Curation and Community.

Voting and Curation

Unlike other platforms like Facebook, Steemit rewards the users that put up good contents. This is a special feature that hasn't been anywhere on social media, most social media only allow the users to post without getting reward in return and that brings about what is know as Vote and Curation. I will take care of Vote and Curation in a moment.

What Voting and Curation means

As explained earlier, voting is the process whereby users get rewards on their quality contents through votes from other users. Steemit has a fixed reward pool, resources are available in the reward pool to earn users Steem, SBD, TRX, SP... through the process known as curation. Curation is the process of voting on users post thereby earning users some rewards, the voters on other user's posts are called Curators.

The process of curation doesn't only give rewards to the content writer but also the voter (curator), the rewards are shared on the basis of 50/50 in percentage, such that if a user is getting 50 SP (steem power) from a content, 50% of it which is 25 SP goes to the user and the other 50% (25 SP) goes to the voters otherwise known as curators.

Upvote and Downvote

Upvote happens when a user gives your post a positive vote because they are satisfied with your content and that will earn you rewards. Downvote is the process whereby a user's post get negative votes maybe because it goes against the community rules or something else. Downvote add no reward to a user's content rather returns the rewards back to the reward pool.

What is voting power

Voting power is rated on percentage which means the curation power of a user at different percentages. Steem power is the basic determinant of how weighty the reward from a user can give to other people's post through votes, such that the bigger the steem power of a user, the bigger the curation or voting power. The screenshot below (Steemworld.com) shows my voting power at different percentages

What is voting mana

Voting mana is like an energy level that depreciates over time when it's been used. Take for instance, when your voting power is at 100%, let's say $0.03 for 100%, each time you upvote a content at 100%, the voting power reduces with 2% such that the voting reduces to 98%. The good thing is that, the voting power gets recharged by the system 20% every day.

What happens when I vote on a content within 5 mins of its posting

As a curator, if I vote on a post that is just within 5 minutes, out of the 50% that is coming to me which is my 100% won't come in full but rather have effects based on the minutes of vote on the new post, such that I will receive just 20% at the first minute and the 80% remain in the reward pool, 2nd minute - 40% to me and 60% remain in the reward pool, 3rd minute - 60% to me and 40% remain in the reward pool, 4th minute - 80% to me and 20% remain in the reward pool, 5th minute - 100% of the reward given to me. It is advisable to wait for a post to hit 5mins or above before curating.

Steem Witness

The Steem blockchain just like every other blockchain uses a set of people called Witnesses to validate and create blocks using a consensus mechanism called delegated proof of stake, community elects witnesses to act as the network's block producers and governance body. On the Steem blockchain, we have 20 full-time witnesses, producing a block every 63-second while the 21st position is shared within the backup witnesses.

Voting a Witness

If I am to vote a witness, although, all are doing their best but I'd opt in for @steemchiller to remain at the top position because of his invention (steemworld.org) tend to be what I love so much as it keeps me updated on happenings on my account. That is the tool I use the most.

Steemit Community

I've joined a lot of communities since I signed up on Steemit and most of them are doing great, all serving the purpose to which it was created. And I'd consider to join more and the one on my mind now is Steem Schools. According to the community description (Business and education), I'd like to learn more through the community.

Steem Schools!

Thanks for reading my Achievement 6 this far and I hope I've solved this to the best of my ability. Thank you all.
