Hello great Steemians, I am in the hope that you are all steeming to greater heights. It is with joy in my heart that I am about to present my achievement 6 to you after carefully reviewing the old ones. Thanks to @sapwoord for ensuring that I did my achievement 5 as meant to. Achievement 6 is all about UNDERSTANDING CURATION AND COMMUNITY and I would be taking you through my review and understanding of the above.
UNDERSTANDING CURATION AND COMMUNITY
VOTE
Voting a post is just similar to liking a post on facebook, twitter, instagram e.t.c but in the steemit platform we vote. You can also downvote a post on steemit just as you can dislike a post on the above mentioned social media platforms. In steemit a post is upvoted if the author posts good contents that is neatly crafted and direct to the point and if the author avoided every form of plagiarism. When an author posts bad contents that are at the discretion of the user, or that is abusive or goes against the steemit community terms, such post can be downvoted. On the steemit platform, there is a fixed reward pool on Steem were steemians vote on good contents/posts to distribute rewards from the reward pool to users who post quality content. When it comes to voting;
- You start out with 100% voting power, every 100% vote you cast will use 2% of your remaining voting power.
- The more you vote, the less influence your vote would carry.
- The steemit network always recharges your voting power by 20% every day.
- You can vote more than 10 times per day, but each vote will be worth less, and it will take longer to reach full voting power again.
- Each user also has a power pool specifically for down votes. This pool is 25% of the upvote power pool. Downvotes will consume this power first before consuming regular upvote power.
- When voting, 1/50th of the remaining steem power is used for a 100% vote. Same math apply's for downvote power but multiplied by 4 because the downvote power pool is 25% the size of the normal power pool. The maximum of these values is used. When both voting power pools are at 100%, the values are the same. When downvote power runs out normal upvote power is used in the same manner as the current behavior.
- New steemians can only upvote and downvote with 100% voting strength.
- Once you reach about 500 Steem Power, you will see a vote slider appear when you vote. You can use the slider to adjust the weight of your vote, between 1% and 100% voting strength. You can view your current voting power using third party tools such as STEEMSCAN or STEEMDB
- The rewards are allocated in a way that 50% of the payout goes to the author of the post/comment, and 50% goes to the curator.
- You can earn curation rewards from upvoting both posts and comments!
- You can't get curation rewards for downvoting posts and comments because downvoting reduces the rewards on a post/comment, it does not earn curation rewards.
- Of the 50% that goes to the curator, the curator will receive less than 100% if the curator votes within the first 5 minutes. The split of the 50% that the curator receives during the first 5 minutes is calculated linearly based on the time the vote is cast. If a post is upvoted the moment of posting, 100% of the curation reward will remain in the rewards pool. see illustration below;
At 1 minute, the curator receives 20%, and 80% remains in the rewards pool.
At 2 minutes, the curator receives 40%, and 60% remains in the rewards pool.
At 3 minutes, the curator receives 60%, and 40% remains in the rewards pool.
At 4 minutes, the curator receives 80%, and 20% remains in the rewards pool.
If a post is upvoted 5 minutes (or later) after posting, 100% of the curation reward goes to the curator.
CURATION
Curation is when a user has other users automatically voting for the same content that they do, the people that automatically vote after them are called their "curation trail". This is to say that voting brings about curation. Once a post is voted on a content, curation follows. This curation is a process by which rewards are distributed from the reward pool to the author of the content you are voting. It is a way of applauding a well crafted content author. Reward are distributed in an even and positive manner only through upvotes. it is important that you always power up to ensure that you distribute a reasonable reward.
VOTING MANA
Voting mana is like saying voting power and remember that whenever you want to buy an item money is your power and it decreases anytime you buy something and pay. @cryptokannon described the **VOTING MANA** as an **ENERGY BAR** in a computer game , these voting power decreases every time you vote. A vote with 50% voting mana left will be worth 1/2 as much as a vote cast with 100% voting mana.
However, it is important to note that a user with more SP is going to have a larger influence on the rewards that his votes gives than users with less SP. One vote from a user with a lot of SP can often have more of an effect than 100 votes from users with a small amount of SP. Your vote may not have an immediate effect but when it gets added in along with all the other votes at the end of the payout period, it can still affect the payout. It may also cause more users to vote on the post too, because they saw that you upvoted it - so your votes can have an indirect effect on the payout this way.
The steemit platform does not ask anybody to purchase SP so as to participate, so you can earned a lot of Steem Power without spending your money. You can purchasing more Steem Power through your *STEEMIT WALLET* or through any *EXCHANGE* that offers *STEEM PAIRS* such as *POLONIEX*.
THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT DOWNVOTES
- Users can downvote for any reason that they deem fit. Many users in the community recommend only using the downvote on posts that are abusive and that's up to you to follow this etiquette.
- simply because you got a downvote doesn't mean you did something wrong. The user who downvoted you may have done that for reason best known to them and might sometimes leave a comment explaining why they downvoted, or they don't comment at all. If they left a reason, it is up to you to determine if you did anything wrong, and if there is anything you need to change.
- Downvotes don't necessarily dent your reputation. Downvotes from users with a lower reputation score than you will not dent your score and vise versa.
- If your post or comment that was downvoted keeps receiving more upvotes than downvotes (weighted by SP), then the net effect on your reputation score will still be positive.
WITNESSES
To ensure better services and security to the steemit platform users, the Steem blockchain schedules witnesses to produce a new block every 3 seconds. 21 witness nodes produce 21 blocks in each 63-second round. They are a set of people with the task of creating blocks and using a consensus mechanism called delegated proof of stake, or DPOS. The community elects 'witnesses' to act as the network's block producers and governance body. There are 20 full-time witnesses, producing a block every 63-second round. A 21st position is shared by the backup witnesses, who are scheduled proportionally to the amount of stake-weighted community approval they have.

A steemit user can vote up to 30 witnesses and since Steem Blockchain is based on DPOS(Delegate Proof of Stake)the more Steem Power you have the more weight on your vote to push the witness up in the rank of top 21 witnesses.

DELEGATIONS
Delegation is a process were those who own SteemPower(more influence) can loan SteemPower to others, who use it primarily to generate curation awards and share those awards with the owners of the SteemPower. Curation is an active way of consuming and upvoting, it's an automated process using upvote bots like Steemauto or a delegated process. COMMUNITY
Steemit is a platform that has generated different communities over the years. Each community has it's descriptions, set goal, achievements, contests, rules and guidelines that keeps the community moving. Every steemian has the right to join any community that best suits their interests and participate in their tasks and contests while sticking to that community rules and regulations. I belong to a few communities like @steemalive, @steemafrica, @worldofxpilar e.t.c and so far my favorite is @steemalive because it has proven to exude love and support beyond measure. These has been achieved by constant engagements through daily and occasional contests that are proven to have been educating and enlightening with so much more exposure envisaged in the near future. USE OF 3RD PARTY APPLICATIONS WIDELY USED BY STEEMIANS
DISCORD APPLICATION
Discord is a mobile friendly application that can be downloaded on the andriod playstore or iOS store. Some community on the steemit platform use discord as a source of direct communication with each other off chain. It is faster since steemit platform is yet to have the messenger features just like other platforms like Facebook or instagram.

NOTIFICATION BOT ON STEEM
These is another mobile friendly application that ensures you get notification on everything that happening on your steemit account such as who upvoted/reply/commenting and etc on your post, and they go to your direct message box on Discord too.
