HOW CURATION WORKS ON STEEMIT
Curation is simply a means of distributing rewards.Therefore,when voting is done,then Curation takes place.Voting is a way of appreciating good content on Steemit.Once you vote,the voter starts to distribute rewards from the reward pool to the writer (author).
Voting Mana is also a factor in voting,it is usually at 100% but deducts by 2% whenever voting is done at a power of 100% and it recharges by 20% daily.To check your voting mana you visit steemscan.com
WHEN YOU POST BEFORE THE MINUTE MARK
When voting is done.50% reward goes to the author and the other 50% goes to the voter.However,if the voter(curator)votes a post before the 5 minutes mark,the voter won't get his full reward.Here is a table that summarizes a voting done before the five minute mark.

So voting before 5 minutes that a post was made decreases the curators reward as shown above while voting at 5 minutes or after 5 minutes gives the curator full curators reward.
WITNESSES ON STEEMIT
Witnesses are elected by the community to produce blocks for the steem blockchain every 3 seconds.
They are doing a great job for the Steemit platform.

There are lots of Communities on steemit.I chose to join some of them.They are :

Steemalive is fast growing Community on Steemit.It is a general post Community founded by a Nigerian called @focusnow
I joined @steeemalive because it trains,mentors and supports new members and old members alike.
Newcomers Community
This is a Community that mentors newbies.It is where all the Achievement posts are posted.I joined it because it guides me on how to make Achievement posts and also hosts my Achievement posts.
Worldoffootball Community
It is a football based Community where football topics and contests are hosted.
I joined it because I am a football enthusiast.
CONCLUSION
I also joined other Communities but may not have time to write on all of them.
