Achievement 6 Task by @saxopedia : Understanding Curation and Community

Hello Steem World,

Here is my achievement 6 task and i am very excited to share with you my understanding of:

  • curation and voting and how they work on steemit,
  • What happened if you vote a post before 5 minutes marks after posting,
  • Who will you vote for Steem Witness ? and Why,
  • Which community will you join in Steemit, and why?
and hopefully this might help or ease the understanding of another person or steemian.

I will like to also appreciate @sapwood for guidance and walk through i gave me via my accomplishment of my achievement 5.

1. Do you understand how voting and curation work in Steemit?

Curation basically is that part of the post payout that goes towards the voters. Currently in steem blockchain, the code instructs payouts to be split between Author and Curator.
Voting initiates curation. This means that when you vote for a content curation is initiated. The rewards of a vote is distributed to both the Authors and Curators. The Author reward and the Curator reward share the post payout in a ratio of 50/50. So the Author gets 50% of the post payout and the Curators get 50% of the post payout.

There are two types of votes that is upvote, and downvote. If you like a post/content, you appreciate the content by upvoting. If you have more SP (Steem Power), your vote will have a large influence on the rewards than the user with less SP. It also depends on the voting mana you hold. It is initially set to 100%. For every 100% vote you cast will use 2% of your remaining voting mana. It gets recharged by 20% each day.

A post/content can get downvote for any reason, most of the time if posts are abusive or post doesn't follow defined guidelines. It is up to you if you want to follow this etiquette. Also, users may leave a comment explaining why they downvoted, but sometimes they might not. If there is a reason mention in a comment, you can check if you did something wrong and if that can be improved.

When you choose the Power Up 100% before publishing your post, this simple means all your author rewards will be in Steem Power. Steem Power is: "Influence tokens which give you more control over post payouts and allow you to earn on curation rewards."

2. What happened if you vote a post before 5 minutes marks after posting?

Voting within this window of 5 minutes will result in giving up a part of your curation reward(which varies linearly from 0 to 5 mins) and that will go back to the reward pool. So if you vote at 2.5 mins, you will give up 50% of your curation reward.

At the time of publishing a post, 100% of the curation reward will remain in the rewards pool. Below is the breakup of the time, curation rewards % and % of rewards in the reward pool.

Time Curator Rewards Rewards that goes to the pool
After 1 minute 20% 80%
After 2 minutes 40% 60%
After 3 minutes 60% 40$
After 4 minutes 80% 20%
After 5 minutes 100% 0%

Who will you vote for Steem Witness ? and Why,

The Steem blockchain requires a set of people to create blocks and there are 20 full-time witnesses, producing a block every 63-second round. Witnesses are generally selected by the steem community to create blocks for the steemit blockchain. So i voted for @steemchiller who has made steemworld.org during my achievement 5 review of steemworld.org

4. Which community will you join in Steemit, and why?

When i joined steem, my mentor @thegreens introduce me just to the newcomers community and told me to do all achievements in this community as a newbie but as time pass by, i began exploring the steemit platform, then i discover that there are several communities here on steemit within which members post good content every minute each day. I went through some of these communities and I have joined a good number of them that match with my interest and here are some of the communities i have joined
