Do you understand how voting and curation work in Steemit?

Basically there are two types of voting in this platform that is Up-vote and Down-Vote. Based on the quality of the content, users vote. Same as what we do on social media. If we go through a good post we upvote and If we come across an abusive post or something which is not relevant to rules of Steem blockchain we down vote.

When the users vote it means they distribute their reward from a fixed reward pool on Steemit. The reward will be equally divided among the user who voted and the content creator (Author of the post). Therefore the reward which is received by the voter is known as the curation reward and the content creator will receive an author reward.

The influence you can make by voting in this platform depends on your SP. If you have got more SP, the more you can distribute reward from the reward pool.

But all above will depend on your voting mana once you reach the point of 500SP.

What is this voting mana?

I would like to call it a battery. When you reach the point 500 SP, you will notice a slide bar appears before you cast a vote. That’s your voting mana. You can slide and adjust your voting weight from 1%-100%.

When it’s fully charged your voting mana will start at 100%. It reduces every time you use it. The more you use, your vote cast will make less influence. Voting mana will be recharged 20% everyday, automatically through the network.

If you cast your vote at 100% it will take 2% of your remaining voting mana.

What happens if you vote a post, before 5 minutes after posting?

By now you already know that the curation reward and author rewards split equally (50/50). But if the curator votes at the moment of posting, the curator will not receive any reward. The 100% of the reward will remain at the reward pool.

Let me explain to you why… This happens because the split of the curator reward received in the first 5 minutes is calculated linearly, depending on the time of the vote cast.

Let’s say if the curator votes after a minute of posting - then the curator will receive 20% of curation reward and remaining 80% belongs to the reward pool.

If the curator votes 2 minutes of posting - then the curator will receive 40% of curation reward and remaining 60% belongs to the reward pool.

If the curator votes 3 minutes of posting - then the curator will receive 60% of curation reward and remaining 40% belongs to the reward pool.

If the curator votes 4 minutes of posting - then the curator will receive 80% of curation reward and remaining 20% belongs to the reward pool.

If the curator votes 5 minutes later of posting - then the curator will receive 100% of the curation reward.

Therefore keep in mind if you want to cast your vote for a post, you need to check the time of the post and vote after 5 minutes to get the 100% curation reward.

Who will you vote for Steem Witness ? and Why?

I haven’t come across many witnesses but currently I have been using steemit tools https://steemworld.org/, and https://www.steemyy.com/.
These tools were extremely helpful to overlook my account details. I know these applications were developed by @steemchiller and @justyy, my vote will be for them.

Which community will you join in Steemit, and why?

Currently I have joined many communities. When I first posted my introduction I joined the newcomers community to start with the achievement program. It really helped me to get to know this platform better and how it works.

Then I joined Steemblog, Steeming curators for more updates on Steemit. And also I posted most of the diaries in Steeming curators.

Very recently I joined communities like Italy, writing & reviews and SteemFoods. I’m interested in participating in contests so by these communities there were really interesting contests organized. So I joined these communities to participate and I really enjoyed the experience.
