Pelicans (Pelecanus) are a genus of large waterfowl.
They are characterized by a long beak and a large fleshy pocket under it, used for catching fish. Pelicans swim well with their strong webbed feet. Pelican fossils dating back at least 30 million years. Pelicans fly in flocks, hunt together and breed in colonies. Fly in a wedge-shaped formation at distances of up to 150 km. Endangered species - Their populations are declining due to habitat destruction and environmental pollution.
