There's a place here in my city where ostriches were allowed to roam free to mingle with visitors. The place is called Baywalk. It is a privately reclaimed area where the owner constructed a park and a wide walkway at the edge of the park, right next to the sea, for people to relax, exercise, have a picnic or drink with friends. It used to be a popular place and people of all walks of life visited it at all times of the day.
The owner placed several animals in the area. One of these were the ostriches. They were confined and corralled at the start to separate them from people. Just like animals in a zoo. But soon they became familiar with the visitors and were eventually let loose and allowed to mingle with them.
Here is a picture of one of the ostrich.
He sure looks like a happy feathered friend. He loves to eat peanuts and grains. And he must have just eaten some.
The photo below shows part of the reclaimed area. This used to be the sea already but the owner covered it with boulders and soil to reclaim it. This is where the ostriches were confined when they first arrived.
But then progress got in the way. The city government began the construction of the coastal road which passed through the Baywalk. The owner had no choice but to pull out the ostriches and bring them to another undisturbed and rural area. So now there are no ostriches anymore.
Here's the actual shot of the first photo. As you can see people are not afraid of the ostrich. There's harmony and peace in the place in spite if its presence. Which explains the title of this post. Smile and peace will always follow.
