It was cast in bronze by the sculptor Francisco Narváez in 1952, and dialogues with the surroundings of the square that welcomes it, whose fundamental landmark is the traditional church of La Candelaria. While the horse takes a step forward, the hero looks towards the horizon, with one hand firmly holding his reins, while the other rests on his waist. Located in the Plaza Urdaneta of the La Candelaria Parish, this equestrian statue represents the hero Rafel Urdaneta.

The horse is shown with three legs on the ground and the fourth taking a step forward, and the hero with one hand resting on his leg and the other taking the reins of the animal. Urdaneta directs his gaze to infinity, with a confident gesture on his face. The statue, solid, with resounding and stylized forms, highlights the determination of the Marabino hero who fought in the Venezuelan independence struggle.

This statue was made by Francisco Narváez in 1952. The artist moved to Pistoia, Italy, where he lived for 6 months while supervising his foundry. This statue was originally intended for Plaza O'Leary, which was initially going to be called Plaza Urdaneta. Narváez was hired in 1949 for El Silencio. However, in view of the fact that Urdaneta Avenue was also being built at that time (widening East-West Avenue 1), It was decided to locate it in a square attached to the traditional Plaza La Candelaria. This is how the statue of Narvaez is finally erected in the New Plaza Urdaneta.
