Today I am going to present the flower and fruit of the Onoto or Achiote, which in past times due to its red colour was used for cosmology and painting fabrics and pots.

It has a beautiful pink flower similar to a rose, from which the fruit is derived in segments, which is initially green in colour and when ripe turns bright red with many seeds or anthers.
At the point of ripening, the fruit opens, revealing its intense red seeds or anthers.
Nowadays it is used to give colour to food, it is mixed with oil and the oil turns its colour, it is pulverised and also added to food for the same purpose, as well as in paste.
It is very abundant in Latin America, tropical climate, the pulp of these is widely used as compresses to soothe and heal burns, as lipstick, blush and its leaves ideal for headaches and sunstroke. I have used it in this way and it is refreshing.
Also when I have made pasta sauce and I have not had tomato, I have used it to colour yellow rice, broths, to colour white corn dough and other dishes.
