My friend @dove11 has organized another fiction contest in one of my favorite communities, "Hind Whale." Even though he mentioned my name in the contest entry, it does not appear in my profile. Anyhow, I came across it while searching for the contest alert. The contest title is “I was passing by the lake” and if you wish to participate kindly find the link here. Now let’s move to my submission.
My family and I traveled to Nuwara Eliya, a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka, last year. Instead of going on a picnic, we went to see one of my husband's friends who was sick. To get to their house, we had to travel through Gregory Lake, a well-known lake around the world. We went there in the morning, and I wanted to take a boat ride on Gregory Lake. When I mentioned it, my husband chastised me, saying, "We came here not for joy, but to visit my sick friend." "Don't try to utter Nanson," he said. Then I shut my mouth and apologized for bringing up such an inappropriate request.
When we arrived at my husband's friend's house, he had improved to a relatively good condition. While my husband and friend talked, I spent time with her wife, helping her prepare lunch, and my children played with their children.
Unlike ours, their house had a very cool climate, and the greenery with mist surrounding it was also very beautiful. We took in the scenery and the beautiful flowers that adorned the ground until it was time for lunch.
When it was time for lunch, we all ate together, and my husband told them about how I got scolded on the way because of an unnecessary suggestion. When they asked what it was, my husband gave them a rough explanation. 'You are a wonderful man, how could it be an unfair suggestion,' my husband's friend said. I'm only sick, but they don't want to ruin their happiness. Stop by the lake in the evening and enjoy the scenery.
"No, no, I just mentioned it; there's no need to go there," I replied. "Everything is fine." The incident's argument concludes here, and we finish our lunch before heading to the front area to see their vegetable beds.
After saying our goodbyes, we left the location to return home in the evening. Lake Gregory greeted us 10 kilometers away; I had no idea my husband would pull over near the lake when we passed it, but he unexpectedly turned the vehicle toward the lake. "You said you wanted to go on a boat ride," he replied, smiling. We are not returning home today; instead, we will spend the night in a nearby hotel. You can all enjoy and ride on the motorboat." My kids were delighted to hear that and jumped out of the car and ran into the lake. I followed them, grabbing my husband's hand.
A motor boat ticket for 30 minutes costs Rs. 1500/- per person, and we all had a great time riding on it that evening. Not only that, but we went on pony rides for Rs. 500/- per person. We could have rented a boat and gone boating across the lake if we had more money, but instead we spent the evening relaxing and strolling along Gregory Lake.
We couldn't believe it was getting close to 8 p.m., so we went to a nearby food stall and ate specially prepared food for tourists. After eating, we went to the lakeside to admire the beauty of the lake and enjoy the cool weather.
We had a good time enjoying life while admiring the beauty of the lake and feeling the cool breeze. When it got to ten o'clock at night, my husband suggested that we find a hotel where we could spend the night. Then we went to a Gregory Hotel nearby and reserved a room for us. We started our journey the next morning after having breakfast at the hotel.
That's how I passed by Gregory Lake, my dear friends. This is a made-up story, not a true one. I would like to invite @waquarahmadshah, @mayepariata, and @mariami to take part in this contest.
