Hi there

It's few weeks to Christmas, what better way to celebrate than to tell a Christmas story

A Christmas story (How we always celebrate Christmas in my family)

Over here in Nigeria, I come from a family that loves celebrating Christmas. Growing up as a child, I was trained by my parents to cherish Christmas. Once in our Sunday school teaching in church, my Sunday school teacher taught us about the birth of Christ which is the reason for Christmas.

She told us about how the wise men from the east saw the star the day Jesus was born and followed the direction of the star until they got to where Jesus was born. This story still rings a bell to me each time I remember Christmas. I wonder how they were able to read stars and give interpretation for each star they saw. Sometimes it makes me have deep meaning for stars when I look up the sky especially at nights.

My parents would travel all the way from the north to the east every Christmas season just to celebrate Christmas in my home town. They made us see special reasons for celebrating Christmas in my home town. This year am sure they will definitely be traveling back home for Christmas and I can't wait to see them once again because we no longer live in the same city.

Usually, on the day of Christmas, in the morning my parents will call us out for a morning devotion to give God thanks not just for life but for the birth of Jesus. Songs of praise is sang with dancing, followed by sessions of prayers. After our devotion, mum and the ladies moves into the kitchen to prepare the meal.

Rice and stew with fried chicken is our usual meal for Christmas. But most times mum likes to spice it up by making other meals like jollof rice, pepper soup, and she also bakes Chim Chim. Hahah I love Chim Chim. My Dad is not left out with the meal spicing because he always has a special Bottle of wine for toast.

When mum is done preparing the meal, she serves some portions of the food in a flask for me to go and give them as Christmas Gift to some family members and neighbors. This has been her way of celebrating Christmas by sharing some food she has to those who don't.

Our living room is decorated by my father and the guys with Christmas lights but on one of the Christmas days, my Dad surprised the whole family with a Christmas tree. We were all so happy to have a Christmas tree in our living room that year for the first time. The tree was decorated with lights and some toy Reindeer and toy Santa Claus, since we could not get the real ones.

The meals on Christmas day taste real different and I can't even say why that is so, But I love it. On the table as we eat our meals, we usually do it with a grateful heart, remembering God's mercies in the past months on the year. Our the meals my Dad puts on the music and we dance and have fun together until we are all tired.

We go out during the day to visit friends or stay at home and enjoy family time together with lots of fun. This is how we celebrate Christmas in my family. This year am already looking forward to Christmas, the special wine from Dad, the music, the food and even the fun we always have together.

But you know what? Christmas is not just about eating and drinking, it's about what God did when he sent his son to earth to be born, He showed us love. He gave the best gift to us . This is the best time to share what you have with those who don't have as a show of love

I would like to invite some friends to join this contest @ninapenda @lhorgic @chilaw
