What Makes Seoul Unique: A Diversity

Hello Everyone!

I like different contests especially if they are about travel...
This time I decided to take part in a Travel Writing Contest, which is host by @invisusmundi.

It took me a while to decide which country to write about because I am living abroad for more than 12 years. I lived in different countries and different continents, but mostly I lived in South Korea, in Seoul. Therefore, I decided to talk about Seoul.

Why Seoul? First of all, I live here for a pretty long time. Secondly, I saw and felt Seoul from very different sides. I studied here, worked and still working, did a lot of different volunteering stuff, travelled a lot, met many people etc. Seoul is a city where from a naive teenager I became an independent adult And living in Seoul is different than travelling around Seoul. I live here and still keep travelling because I think that it is impossible to travel to all the places in Seoul. Seoul changes every moment, and everyday new places open, and old places change.

Seoul is the heart of South Korea. And it is not just because it is a capital city. Seoul is the only city in South Korea where you can experience so many things. You can feel ancient Korea and modern Korea...

Seoul isn't the first capital of South Korea, and it isn't the first name of that city. Actually, there were so many names of that city. It was called Wiryeseong, then Namgyeong (during the Goryeo Dynasty), during Joseon dynasty it was changed to Hanseong and then to Hanyang. When Japanese army occupied Seoul the city was renamed to Japanese Keijo. The present name the city got in 1882.

Geography. Seoul is divided into 2 parts by the river Han: South Seoul and North Seoul. South Seoul is a historical centre, and North - a modern and business centre. In some districts, Seoul has a very flat landscape, but in other districts, it is super hilly. Actually, in the same district, it can be plain and hilly. You can walk along the flat street but if you turn to the corner it seems like you came to climb the mountain.

People. I guess Seoul is the only city where you can meet foreigners from all around the world. Also, here you can meet Koreans from very different parts of South Korea, and sometimes even North. You can meet people from a very different industry: from service to heavy industry.

History. If you want to know better historical and modern Korea, then Seoul is the right place for it. There are a lot of museums and outdoors which can introduce to you Korean history. Seoul is a combination of history and modernity. You can walk along the street and enjoy how historical and modern places blend together harmoniously.

Seoul is a very nice place to study, to work. to chill, to travel, to... that list is endless. Seoul is a city of opportunity. And life here can be very dynamic and very relaxed at the same time. It depends on what are you doing and what you want to do.

Different people feel about different places and things differently. That makes each place unique.
