Unforgettable Trip #21 | Knuckles Mountain Range | Hunting Waterfalls

Hello Steemians,

How are you doing? I hope everything is going smoothly. This is my 3rd attempt at the Unforgettable Trip contest. I now participate in this contest every week as a habit.
I think you have read my first 2 articles from previous weeks. So today I'm going to write another my Hike & Camping experience. This is very special for me. Because this
is my masterpiece tour. Let's move to the story without further ado.

The Knuckles Mountain Range is located in the middle of Sri Lanka. The Sinhala name of the mountain range is Dumbara Kaduwetiya. UNESCO listed Knucklesforest as
a natural world heritage site. There are 10 peaks which highest more than 1200m. "Gombaniya" is the highest mountain in the Knuckles mountain range. Knuckles-Kirigalpoththa,
5 peaks, Thunthisgala, Yakungehela, and Lakegala are the most popular tourist destinations. It always rains in this forest. It is always full of fog and clouds. According to the Wikipedia
"The isolated Knuckles range harbors several relict, endemic flora and fauna that are distinct from the central massif. More than 34 percent of Sri Lanka's endemic trees, shrubs,
and herbs are only found in these forests."
SourceKnuckles Forest Reserve is managed under
the Department of Forestry.

Some places in the Knuckles forest claim a history up to the time of King Ravana. Among them, is Sita cave, which is believed to be where Princess Sita was hidden by King
Ravana, and Yahangala, which are related to Ravana's history, are found here. The 'Illakka Gala' or 'Lakegala', which is said to have shown the direction of Sri Lanka's
a location is also a unique place located in Knuckles Forest. Also, according to legends, there are several hiding places of Weliwita Sarankara Na Thero. Also, in the past,
natural potassium nitrate needed to make gunpowder. (KNO3) aka Dilunu cave is also found here.

There are several treks where tourists go to explore Knuckles. They are,

A minimum of 2 or 3 days are required to visit any trek. It is mandatory to go with an experienced guide and take permission from the forest department. I have been on the Duviliella Fall Trek.
And the photos I post were taken during that trip. It took 2 days and we traveled 14 kilometers inside the reserve. The entire journey was more than 28 km. It was a very difficult journey
due to the fact that it was covered with trees and grass, infested with leeches, and many streams had to be crossed. However, we were able to see more than 17 waterfalls in those 2 days.
