Eccomi qui a raccontarvi della Giornata Nazionale del Gatto, che si celebra ormai da 30 anni, il 17 Febbraio.
Sono un po’ di parte convivendo con due gatti, ma credo che insieme a me in molti adoriate il più piccolo dei felini!
Questa giornata non va confusa con la Giornata Internazionale del Gatto che si celebra in tutto il Mondo ad Agosto; questa di oggi è tutta nostra, nata dall’iniziativa di una giornalista che propose ai lettori della rivista “Tuttogatto” un referendum per trovare una giornata dedicata alla sensibilizzazione sull’adozione dei gatti!
Tra le tantissime proposte fu scelta il 17 Febbraio, sia per i vari motivi simbolici sia per ironizzare e sdrammatizzare:
infatti Febbraio è da sempre considerato il mese delle streghe e dei gatti, è il mese del segno zodiacale dell’Acquario che rappresenta gli spiriti liberi e anticonvenzionali proprio come i gatti, e inoltre il 17 è considerato un giorno sfortunato proprio come il gatto soprattutto se nero!
Fortunatamente con gli anni il gatto si è riscattato da tante superstizioni, ed è tra gli animali domestici più amati, tant’è che nelle case italiane sembra ce ne siano 7.300.000, contro i 7.000.000 di cani!
Purtroppo ancora molte persone non sanno rapportarsi con il gatto e il suo spirito indipendente, riservato e diffidente, non viene capito.
In realtà sono animali che sanno dare tantissimo amore ma decidono loro come e quando, e soprattutto considerano il loro amico umano al loro livello e non si lasciano sottomettere, d’altra parte erano delle divinità fin dai tempi degli antichi egizi!
Comunque in questa giornata a loro dedicata vengono organizzate tantissime iniziative, per sensibilizzare le persone al rispetto degli animali e se possibile alla adozione dei tanti gatti randagi!
Quindi se avete un gatto oggi merita una dose massiccia di coccole, e se non lo avete provate a pensare se c’è un piccolo spazio nella vostra vita per un amico felino, vi potrebbe regalare emozioni inaspettate!

Here I am to tell you about National Cat Day, which has been celebrated for 30 years now, on 17 February.
I am a bit biased living with two cats, but I think that along with me many of you adore the smallest of felines!
This day is not to be confused with International Cat Day, which is celebrated all over the world in August; today's is our own, born from the initiative of a journalist who proposed to the readers of the magazine 'Tuttogatto' a referendum to find a day dedicated to raising awareness about cat adoption!
Among the many proposals, 17 February was chosen, both for various symbolic reasons and to ironise and play down:
In fact February has always been considered the month of witches and cats, it is the month of the zodiac sign of Aquarius, which represents free and unconventional spirits just like cats, and furthermore 17 is considered an unlucky day just like the cat especially if it is black!
Fortunately, over the years the cat has redeemed itself from many superstitions, and is among the most loved pets, so much so that there are apparently 7,300,000 of them in Italian homes, compared to 7,000,000 dogs!
Unfortunately, many people still do not know how to relate to the cat and its independent, reserved and mistrustful spirit is not understood.
In reality, they are animals that know how to give a lot of love, but they decide how and when, and above all, they consider their human friend at their level and do not allow themselves to be subjugated; on the other hand, they have been gods since ancient Egyptian times!
Anyway, on this day dedicated to them, many initiatives are organised to make people aware of the respect for animals and if possible to adopt the many stray cats!
So if you have a cat today it deserves a massive dose of cuddles, and if you don't try to think if there is a little space in your life for a feline friend, it might give you unexpected emotions!
