Il mondo sportivo spesso è alla ribalta per tante brutte situazioni che niente hanno a che vedere con lo spirito sportivo e il suo vero significato.
Poi però capitano degli episodi che fanno recuperare tutta la fiducia e ci restituiscono il senso vero dello Sport!

In questi giorni ci sono stati i Campionati Nazionali Under 23 di Scherma a Vercelli, e proprio durante il match finale per la conquista del titolo italiano e un posto ai prossimi europei c'è stata una delle pagine più belle dello Sport italiano.
Parliamo delle atlete Gaia Traditi e Emilia Rossatti, le due ragazze si stavano affrontando con un punteggio di 12 a 9 per Gaia che però a soli 17 secondi dal termine cade indietreggiando e si fa male alla caviglia.
Ritorna in pedana ma non è più in grado di attaccare ne di difendersi e non le resta che aspettare che l'avversaria rimonti e vinca.
Ma non succede perchè Emilia aspetta senza attaccare quei lunghi 17 secondi decidendo di lasciare la vittoria all'avversaria che fino a quel momento aveva dominato il match!
Proprio così questa giovane ragazza avrebbe potuto approfittare delle difficoltà dell'avversaria ma non lo ha fatto perchè come lei stessa ha dichiarato "si vince per merito non per gli infortuni degli altri" e poi "l'amicizia vale più di una vittoria"!
Una grande lezione di fair play da un'atleta giovane che speriamo riceverà tanto dallo sport perchè ne incarna la parte migliore.
Questo è lo sport che piace a me, dove il rispetto e l'amicizia ancora hanno un significato importante!

In these days there were the Under 23 National Fencing Championships in Vercelli, and right during the final match for the Italian title and a place at the next Europeans there was one of the most beautiful pages of Italian sport.
Let's talk about the athletes Gaia Traditi and Emilia Rossatti, the two girls were facing each other with a score of 12 to 9 for Gaia who, however, just 17 seconds from the end fell backwards and hurt her ankle.
She returned to the piste but was no longer able to attack or defend herself and all she had to do was wait for her opponent to come back and win.
But it didn't happen because Emilia waited without attacking for those long 17 seconds, deciding to leave the victory to her opponent who had dominated the match until then!
This is exactly how this young girl could have taken advantage of her opponent's difficulties, but she did not do so, because as she herself declared 'you win on merit, not because of other people's injuries' and then 'friendship is worth more than a victory'!
A great lesson in fair play from a young athlete who will hopefully receive a lot from sport because she embodies its best side.
This is the sport I like, where respect and friendship still mean a lot!
