For an artist, it is very much suggested to try practicing on portraits with any tools he or she have. For an example graphite pencils would be great option to try. The simplicity of usage makes this medium more appealing. Every one of us should have been started with pencils since the starting of their artistic carreer.
I still like this mode for making portrait. The only issue I faced was capturing our creations won't give the effectiveness of the piece in pictures like we see with our naked eyes.
Still great option for practicing.
