Series "Practical advice" #1 - Cropping a photo

Most of the posts on Steemit are based on photography. There are many posts where one photo serves as the entire content of the post. But we will talk not so much about the quality of posts, but about the quality of the photos themselves.

Photography has now become generally available. If you have a smartphone in your hands, then you can already take photos. It is wonderful. I have nothing against mobileography. You can shoot anything and do anything. The main thing is the result.

The result is not always pleasing to the eye. If a person just points his camera at something, presses the shutter and then simply uploads the resulting photo to the network ... I understand that there are geniuses of photography with a sharp eye and a sense of the frame. Theoretically, there is, but I have not yet met such. As a result, a lot of garbage pictures gets in our blogs. First of all, the photographer himself suffers from this. Looking at the slovenly preview post, such a position can be ignored and will not be monetized. And if there is no interesting text there yet ...

I am not a professional photographer and do not rate my abilities very highly. I am an amateur photographer. However, having studied the photo business by trial and error, I have gained some practical experience in shooting and processing photographs. I am planning to create a series of posts as part of the community WORLD OF XPILAR newbie support program to share this experience. If it is useful to someone, I will be satisfied and almost happy :)

I already started a conversation once and touched on the topic of drunken horizons. This post can be considered the beginning of this series.

Today we will talk about cropping or cropping unnecessary parts of a photo.
What is the main thing in your photography and what is unnecessary is, of course, up to you to decide.

There are times when you want to change the aspect ratio. For example, from a 4: 3 ratio, get a 1: 1 square or some other formats. The screenshot shows different standard photo formats in a red frame.

Also, please note that the original photo is not ordinary. The lens used in this case did not allow obtaining an imprint on the full matrix and a rather large black zone remained. You can leave it that way if you want to use this circle as an artistic technique. For example, a shot from the bathyscaphe porthole.

But you will most likely want to have a rectangular image format. For this purpose, there is such a tool as cropping. Most graphics editors have it. I already mentioned the photo editor https://www.faststone.org/. In this example, I used Lightroom because I mostly use it. In addition, most modern smartphones have a built-in editor that supports this tool. Just study your smartphone if you are not using a camera ..

Now I will show you a few frames that I got from one photo. You might not have guessed that these are children of the same parent.

And here is the original photo without any adjustments.

As you can see, the tool is simple, but it can be quite effective.
If you have any questions, I will try to answer them in the comments.
