The Kardjali Dam is a large dam in the Eastern Rhodopes, about 3 km from Kardjali. It accumulates the waters of the Arda River. It was built in the period 1957-1963 and provides good conditions for fishing. It is mainly used for electricity production. The height of the dam wall is 103.50 m, and the flooded area - 16.4 sq.km. The Kardzhali Dam is the second largest dam wall, and in terms of construction, shape and performance, it is unique for the entire Balkan Peninsula, and the curious thing about it is that it is one of the few in the world towering over the city itself. As the location of the dam, we have indicated an easily accessible high place, from which a wonderful view of the dam is revealed.
