Porto Katsiki Lefkada : Porto Katsiki is one of the main beach attractions of Lefkada and among the best beaches in Greece and the Mediterranean. It is located 44 km southwest of the capital of the island and near the village of Atani.
The natural beauty of Porto Katsiki offers one of the most impressive themes that Lefkada is known for. Steep white cliffs form a wild but magnificent backdrop and a unique antithesis to the deep blue waters of the Ionian Sea. Lush vegetation covers the surrounding area, creating one of the most idyllic landscapes in the world.
Numerous sunbeds and umbrellas cover this famous sandy beach, but the rocks offer beautiful shady spots for some privacy and relaxing sunbathing. A few steps will take you directly to the beach.
Porto Katsiki is simply irresistible to thousands of visitors worldwide and is a unique sightseeing experience. It is visited by private yachts and is simply the best way to access this beach other than by car. It can also be reached by taxi-boat from the villages of Vasiliki and Nidri. At the top of the stairs there is parking, bars and canteens
In Lefkada, the seabed of Porto Katsiki beach is characterized by white coarse sand and pebbles, with deep blue waters: quite similar to some other places on the west coast. Behind the narrow beach you can see the iconic sheer cliff, with lush vegetation on top. In recent years, there were no umbrellas and sunbeds for rent, so don't forget the umbrella!
The sea surface is varied here, because Porto Katsiki is one of the western beaches of Lefkada, which are famous for the stunning big waves. In these periods, swimming is recommended only for experienced people and respect the incredible power of the waves. When the sea is rough, swimming is prohibited and everyone must stay out of the water. Sea temperatures depend a lot on the actual weather conditions and sea currents at that location.
In front of the beach there is a small peninsula, from which a few years ago an exceptional panoramic view of the beach was opened. Unfortunately, the stairs that lead up there were destroyed by an earthquake in 2015 and are now impassable. At the bottom of the cliffs you can find several sea caves, but some of them are closed due to the risk of collapse.
