This is my entry for The World of XPILAR - CITYSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #088. It is a tiny planet image that I took using my 360 degree camera, of the statue of one of the founders of the city (Sorocaba) where we live; Baltazar Fernandes, located in front of the monastery. Captain Baltazar Fernandes was born in 1580 and was a Portuguese colonist who was the founder and one of the first settlers of Sorocaba in 1654. He built a house on the edge of the Sorocaba River and also a chapel, which is now the Sorocaba Metropolitan Cathedral. In 1660, he donated land, plantations and slaves to the Benedictines, which later became the foundation of the Monastery of St. Benedict (Mosteiro de Sรฃo Bento em Portuguรชs) which is located behind the statue. The monument is dedicated in his memory and serves as a reminder of the history of this important character in the founding of the city.
