A waterfall that invites to some fun (8 Photos)

DSC_01.JPG

Rochester Falls is located in the Savanne district of the southern part of Mauritius. The photos are from two different visits. The first time there were no others there. On my second, which was a week-end, it was crowded with locals who wanted to have some fun.

It's located in a wild and rugged landscape that's a little difficult to get to due to that. The road is mostly only two wheel tracks. You can't drive all the way. We had to park and walk the rest of the way. It is well hidden in lush, green forest.

A cascade of water drops into the pool below. The first two photos were taken in February which is the rainy season and different shutter speed. This 10 meter high fall consists of rectangular blocks of rock that have been shaped by lava flows thousands of years ago.

The second visit was in November. That was a different experience. Less water which makes it much easier to see the vertical columns. That is also the season when locals have fun jumping into the pool.
