#club5050 | Photographing birds in Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, Mauritius (#steemexclusive / 13 photos)

DSC_01.JPG

On this november visit to Mauritius I also visited the botanical garden in Pamplemousses. This garden must be one of the best places to visit to get an idea of the variety of trees, plants, flowers, spices and medical plants found on the island. The garden has more than 650 various plants! Many of the palmtrees do not originate on the island. They were brought to Mauritius from different parts of the world.

But the park does not contain plants only. There is an animal corner with deers and giant tortoises. But these are fenched in. Around one of the larger ponds you will finds ducks and the Madagaskar moorken. Seveal birds, that I don't know the name of, are also found here. I chose to spend some time here on a small island in the pond to photographs the ducks. They seem to have the perfect place! The plants and trees do provide good hiding places.

The botanical garden started as a private garden, but developed into one of the most known and also one of the largest botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere. The name of the garden changed after 1980 to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (the Father of the Nation). He was the first prime minister when Mauritius became independent in 1968. When Mauritius was still British, he was the leader of the Independent Movement.

This is not exactly a bird, but the bats flew over us after sitting in the trees, eating the fruit. There is a lot of them in the garden, but to be able to see them in the air the guide took a stick and hit a tree. That made them more visible to us!

Besides all the plants and animals, you will find Chateau de Mon Plaisier which was built in 1823. In 2005 a museum was set up in the building. It contains an exhibiton with photographs that shows the life of the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam. His funerary platforms is also found in the garden, next to the Chateau. But his ashes was taken to India to be spread over river Ganges.

A beautiful park that is worth visiting more than once. I will most likely come here again.

From now on I will be powering up 50% of all liquid payout. Subconsciously been influenced by reading the line below probably 100 times.. So, I will steal your ending @stef1, if its okey?
