We should celebrate the day today, and that is on 8 May 1945. We were free from Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime in Germany. And therefore, we got the freedom back after being in war in approximately 5 years, from 1940 to 1945.

So, which kinds of freedom should we have in different societies? We should have the freedom of assembly, the freedom of speech, and the freedom of believing in the religion that we find appropriate. And these kinds of freedom should go extremely long, according to the earlier professor Francis Sejersted in Norway, and Sejersted was also the boss for the Nobel Peace Prize. And when coming to the 8 May 1945, it stood that we had peace in the Norwegian newspapers, and that was great for anybody.

What is special with the day, 8 May 1945? Following Germany's unconditional surrender, World War II in Europe officially ended at midnight on this day in 1945, although the war in the Pacific continued until the Japanese surrender in September. So, there was extremely much pleasure and convenience on this day, and people celebrated the day by being outside, and some went into the streets. And there were people everywhere, and many were extremely happy with this day, that we finally had got peace, and that the war was over!

World War II began in Europe on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. Great Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany on September 3. The war between the U.S.S.R. and Germany began on June 22, 1941, with Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union. And hence, we had a world war! And this war included most of the greatest and most powerful countries in the world, and many countries were occupied by the Germans, and therefore we moved into a war with global consequences.

What key event happened in May 1945? German armed forces surrendered unconditionally to the Allies on May 7, 1945. The surrender went into effect the next day, May 8. World War II officially ended in most parts of Europe on May 8 (V-E Day). Because of the time difference, Soviet forces announced their “Victory Day” on May 9, 1945.

On 8 May 1945, we got freedom and diversity back to our different countries. Freedom and diversity go hand in hand. While freedom promotes diversity, diversity protects freedom and prevents conformity. Together, freedom and diversity permit different expressions of people’s individuality that lead to the great achievements of civilization.

Milton Friedman has written a book on freedom, And he argues for economic freedom as a precondition for political freedom. He defines "liberal" in European Enlightenment terms, contrasting with an American usage that he believes has been corrupted since the Great Depression. So, we need to be liberal and thinking, if we should do anything good things in a society. But we also get bad things with freedom, for example criminality. Milton Friedman was born on 31 July 1912 in New York, and he died 16 November 2006 in San Francisco. And therefore, looking to the United States, we find the big problems and solutions in the literature for any society. Milton Friedman wrote several books about freedom, and these were: On Freedom, Capitalism and Freedom and Free to Choose. And therefore, any act we are doing is within a system or the brain waves are outside this system, since the brain is local and global, and since you can think of solutions for the whole earth and the whole universe.

So, the day of today, 8 May, that is a great day. And we got the freedom and diversity back, and we cannot do other things than celebrating that we are free! Yippee! Congratulation with the day to everyone wanting just peace, stability and harmony in any nation!
