Photography - Close encounter with one of South America's inhabitants (4 photos)

DSC_01.jpg

When traveling in South America you will most likely meet a Llama, an Alpaca, a herd of Guanacos or Vicuñas. When I was in Argentina and Chile last year, I did get close to them. But even standing face-to-face with them, it was hard to tell the difference. They all live in the highlands of Peru, Argentina, northern Chile and Bolivia in the wild, but they are also domesticated. But I am pretty sure this guy is a Vicuña.

The place is the Atacama desert in Northern Chile, somewhere not far from San Pedro de Atcama. This high altitude desert land is the driest desert in the world . This animal walked along the edge of the water while I was taking photos of birds. He walked passed me, pretty close, but just at the closest point he found it more safe to take a step into the water and at the same time look at me. I am not a «wildlife photographer» and don't have a telephoto lens. Never the less, it's always a great moment to see animals in the wild.
