Pippi is helping out on a construction site (Kristiansand, Norway)

In april I came across the first construction site in Kristiansand with cool graffiti all the way around. Last week when I was in town, I passed a construction site again. The fence around the crane has got a painting done by local artist, Vlekart.

He makes use of the concrete blocks that support the crane. and has painted a block below so it looks like Pippi Longstockings – the strongest girl in the world - is lifting all the blocks. Do you recognize her?

Pippi Longstock (Swedish) or Pippi Longstockings in English is the main character in a series of children's books written by the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. The three basic books were published from 1945-1948. Pippi is Lindgren's most famous literary figure. She has appeared in films and TV series. By 1997, the books had been translated into 54 different languages. Lindgren portrayed Pippi as an unusual girl and especially when the first books came out in the 1940s she could be seen as controversial.

Usually it takes many month to built an apartment complex. During that time we can enjoy the graffiti on the fence surrounding the site. I think it's a great idea, even the paintings won't be preserved.
