The world inventions; The history and the case of the Vikings in the northern part of the world!

The Vikings were wild in human nature, and they made many wars, and many of these wars they fought and they won them. And they were active and strong warriors, and they had to win wars in the landscape and in the sea!

The Vikings originated from the area that became modern-day Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. They settled in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Iceland, Greenland, North America, and parts of the European mainland, among other places.

The homelands of the Vikings were in Scandinavia, but the countries of Scandinavia as we know them today did not exist until the end of the Viking Age. Wherever they lived, the Viking-age Scandinavians shared common features such as house forms, jewellery, tools and other everyday equipment.

The name Viking came from the Scandinavians themselves, from the Old Norse word "vik" (bay or creek) which formed the root of "vikingr" (pirate).

Quick wit, bravery and action were among the key attributes for a Viking warrior, but to be remembered for great deeds was the most important of all. And therefore, they wanted to win as many wars as possible and to be heroes on one particular day, as David Bowie was and is still singing about!

Vikings had a settlement in North America exactly one thousand years ago, centuries before Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, a study says. Scientists say a new dating technique analysing tree rings has provided evidence that Vikings occupied a site in Newfoundland, Canada, in 1021AD.

The most known and most famous wars that the Vikings win in the north were several, and nowadays we are thinking that the following five wars made the top of the most admired battles from the Vikings in the north:

*1 - Battle of Stamford Bridge (1066)
*2 - Battle of Assandun (1016)
*3 - Battle of Maldon (991)
*4 - Battle of Edington (878)
*5 - Battle of York (867)

Which years did the Vikings invade? The first invasion took place in AD 793, and the last one occurred in 1066, when William the Conqueror became King of England following the Battle of Hastings. In fact, from AD793, many Vikings built ships and crossed the sea from Denmark to conquer large parts of north-eastern England and its centre in York.

The Viking era is the period following the Germanic Iron Age. From around the year 793 to 1066, Norsemen used rivers and oceans to explore Europe for trading, raiding and conquest. 'Viking' is a catch-all term for the people who came from Scandinavia, what is now Norway, Denmark and Sweden, between the eighth and 11th centuries, more properly known as the Norse, or Norsemen. Greek shields were more usually seen on the Hoplites, although Vikings did also use them.

Which persons are the ten most admired of the Vikings? They were known and famous for what they did, and we have the following list of the most popular Vikings:

*Erik the Red. Erik the Red, also known as Erik the Great, is a figure who embodies the Vikings' bloodthirsty reputation more completely than most.
*Leif Erikson.
*Freydís Eiríksdóttir.
*Ragnar Lothbrok.
*Bjorn Ironside.
*Gunnar Hamundarson.
*Ivar the Boneless.
*Eric Bloodaxe.
*Egil Skallagrimsson.
*Harald Hardrada.

The Vikings traded all over Europe and as far east as Central Asia. They bought goods and materials such as silver, silk, spices, wine, jewellery, glass and pottery. In return, they sold items like honey, tin, wheat, wool, wood, iron, fur, leather, fish and walrus ivory.

Where did the Vikings get their goods from? From Constantinople, Baghdad and perhaps even Persia, the Vikings could obtain goods from the Far East. Timber, iron, furs, amber, soapstone, whetstones and slaves were carried south by Viking traders.
