This beautiful cathedral in the center of Buenos Aires is worth a look. When I was back in Buenos Aires this year I chose to check out inside of the church. The facade, that has a triangular form with columns in a neoclassical style, makes it looks more like a museum than a cathedral. But this cathedral is the main church in the capital of Argentina. The location is right in the city center by Plaza Mayo, so it's impossible to miss when going to the plaza.

The cathedral has been rebuilt a number of times since its origins sometime in the 16th century. The building, as we see it today, is a mixture of several architectural styles. The cathedral has been rebuilt a number of times since its origins sometime in the 16th century. The building, as we see it today, is a mixture of several architectural styles. Apart from the neoclassical facade from the 19th century, there is a dome from the 18th century.

The building has side chapels that are connected by corridors. When we look around, we see beautiful artwork, statues and biblical scenes in the frescoes. These frescoes haven't been here from the beginning. At that time it was only the altarpieces that had some decorations. Look at the floor! This is impressive mosaic work. After the visit, I found out it has been designed by an Italian. Even the cathedral has undergone restoration work, it still has som elements that can be dated back to colonial times.

There is some historical significanse attached to this cathedral. It actually contains th mousoleum of a general named José de San Martin. He became an Argentine hero because he led Argentina to independence in 1816. But after indepence he lived in exile in France and did not return to Argentina before after his death. It was his remains that were brought back. But it didn't happen until 30 years after his death.
