This time I want to share some photos of Norwegian nature. This walk took me to the lake Bånetjønn next to Ravnedalen I was talking about last week. This area called «Bymarka» is conected to Ravnedalen and Baneheia which is also one of these natural landscapes just outside the city center of Kristiansand. All the three mentioned are connected to each other and you can walk through all of them on the same walk.

These photos were taken on a walk all around the lake called «Bånetjønn». General Oscar Wergeland (1815 -95) was in charge of contructing the city park, Ravnedalen (my previous post). He was a man who wanted parks and nataural areas for the public. He certainly has managed to do so.

Ravnedalen, Bymarka and Baneheia covers a large area with a number of paths and lakes. They are marked so one can choose different walks each time. Some of them are accessible for wheel-chair users and some have toilet facilitis.

Sometime around the 1860s Baneheia were loosing lots of trees. They were cut down. Wergeland presentet in 1862 a plan to «The Tenants Assosiation» about getting about how to get back the trees. This association (Byselskapet),was lead by him as the garrison commander. What he did, was to make use of garrison soldiers. With the help of these soldiers, they managed to plant more than 10.300 trees – Pinetrees, Lark and Spruce. They did not only do that. They also constructed paths for pedestrians, steps made of rocks etc. During a period of two years, they had than planted more than 150.000 trees.

Within Baneheia there are 3 beautiful and idyllic lakes that are stemmed by means of well-constructed stone dams. These lakes are very popular for a swim during summer.Originally the lakes functioned as water supply for Kristiansand.

Today Baneheia represents the kind of natural landscape that general Oscar Wergeland was dreaming of. To the great pleasure of the city’s residents, me included.

Powering up 100% of all liquid payout! Thank you for the support for making this possible for me each week! 😂👍
