On 291218 I traveled to Argentina to start a 7-week tour of Argentina and Chile. The plan was to celebrate New Year's Eve in Buenos Aires, but instead we were in El Calafate in Argentine Patagonia. We hadn't been able to get a flight connection to El Calafate on New Year's Day. That was the reason why we had to leave Buenos Aires on New Year's Eve. El Calafate is a small town, so we didn't have high hopes of being able to book a table at a restaurant. It did turn out to be difficult. Although after arriving we made our way up the main street and checked out all the places to eat on our way.

We stayed at the hotel Kau Yatรบn. A pleasant hotel on the outskirts of town. The hotel offered a table in their restaurant. They had a ready-made plan with a 3-course dinner. Since there were free places for us, we accepted. It turned out to be a very pleasant evening, thanks to way the hotel had arranged that evening.

It turned out to be a very pleasant evening that started at 20.30 with tapas outside. Since we come from Norway, we are used to it being dark long before 5pm and usually it's very cold too. But since we were on the receiving side of the equator, it was summer time. Because of being to far south, it wasn't dark until late in the evening either. It was a very unusual experiecnce to be able to stay outside the whole night, dressed in summer clothes.

The hotel had really made a great arrangemendt. Eventually we went to the table for dinner. We were placed at a table with an Italian family who also stayed who were also travelling to some of the same places as us, we had a great evening in the company of this family. As the clock approached midnight, drinks were served and one of the staff counted down the minutes until the clock struck 12. Immediately afterwards we all went outside to watch the fireworks. We agreed that it was a good New Year's Eve. We weren't the least bit disappointed that we weren't in Buenos Aires.

Happy New Year to all of you.
