WOX Travel Contest | Week 9 - Canberra Is My Favorite Tourist Destination

I was a bit confused as to which tourist destination to present here. In fact, I had several places in my mind so I selected the one which in itself has several places to write about for the WOX Travel Contest | Week 9 by @o1eh. I have decided in favor of Canberra, where I live, and will return within the next 7-8 weeks if all goes right.

I am ready to take you to various tourist interest places of Canberra the Australian Capital with a lot of open space, natural beauty and so much to see in the city and surrounding areas.

This city is spread over 814 km2 but has a population of approximately half a million, which makes it a little more attractive.

Edison Park with free gym equipment. Parks with all facilities across almost every road across the street within walking distance.

Please note-

Gym, golf, biking, scooting, skating, and skateboard facilities are available at all parks.

Canberra is not an old city, but the capital city of Australia was founded a little over 110 years ago, in 1913. However, the city has been planned in such a way that it will need no infrastructural changes for the next 200 years.

The Australian capital city has no skyscrapers, but it has highly sought-after real estate locations and wonderful tourist places, which I will present in my post. The people in Canberra believe in nature and peace and maintain their city as the world's most beautiful capital.

Canberra offers plenty of views of the mountains, valleys, and rivers, calling you for a once-in-a-lifetime experience surrounded by natural beauty and world-class infrastructure.

Places to visit in Canberra

Lake Burley Griffin

I love driving a battery boat in the lake. 2020 was a hot year and I lost almost 8 kg during December and January as we were walking and traveling constantly. The temperature was in the range of24- 44 degree C that year. The time my wife took this picture it was almost 44.

Lake Burley Griffin is the lifeline of Canberra, as most activities happen around this artificial lake. The Canberrans call it their aquatic playground. Any occasion, or weekend in Canberra is incomplete without a visit to this wonderful area.

In fact, the entire Canberra goes out and finds ways to enjoy the lake’s lovely calmness and vastness. You have paddleboats, electric boats, biking and walking paths around the lake, and gyms at every kilometer.

Australian National Botanic Gardens

Beijing Garden (Chinese Garden)

The Beijing Garden is another tourist attraction right at the edge of Lake Burley Griffin. This beautiful garden has sculptures and pagodas. You can watch various birds in this garden, including real and artificial swans, as they make this their permanent home.

Yes, some of these birds are so friendly that they will come close enough to talk to you. A short walk will get you from the Beijing Garden to the beautiful walking areas. Spend a wonderful evening in Canberra.

National Zoo and Aquarium

Australia boasts of having some of the best walking tracks in the world. These walking tracks generally have visitors every day but weekends are almost buzzing with biking, scooting and walking activities.

Snowy Mountains

This area is the highest region and has long been the most popular winter tourism destination in Australia. This area, with its snowfields and other tourist attractions, stays crowded all year round. The valleys of the Snowy Mountains, with their natural beauty, and hiking trails and walking paths, provide thrill-seekers with the opportunity to walk to new heights on foot or by mountain bike.

Spread over a vast area Charlotte Pass, Cooma, Jindabyne, Kosciuszko National Park, Perisher, Snowy Valleys, Thredbo, Tumbarumba, and Tumut are tourists' paradises, especially for those looking to hike in the Snowy Mountains, which is a unique experience in itself. This area has beautiful greenery, trees, forests, and awesome rivers.

And what is Canberra without "Floriade"? This is an annual celebration of spring in the heart of Australia's capital, every year in September.

Jervis Bay

Jervis Bay is a place that will last a long time in my memory. The place boasts to have the whitest sand on the beaches of the Pacific Sea compared to anywhere in the world. I am a witness to having seen white sand on the beaches that I visited during my 48-hour stay.

A one-way bushwalk passing through eucalyptus forests, the breathtaking view of falls, and a great picnic spot along the Thredbo River. If you are interested in wildlife, then you're at the right spot because you can find wood ducks, crimson rosellas, Australian magpies, flame robins, wedge-tailed eagles, and even platypus.

What is around Canberra?

I suggest some of my favorite ones among hundreds of tourist-interest locations as Jervis Bay

I suggest going to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Gibraltar falls which is not far off from the city of Canberra

Have you seen a kangaroo? This is not a proper question because almost all of us have seen a kangaroo either face-to-face or in pictures. Tidbinbilla and Gibraltar Falls, the famous Forest Reserve, are about 30 minutes’ drive from Central Park.

Tidbinbilla is one of the most visited national parks, with thousands of species of animals, although some of them have been shifted to other places in recent years because of the bushfires in 2019–20. Gibraltar Falls and walking paths are added tourist attractions.

The best part of going to Canberra is that you need no more than 30 minutes to go to any place in the city by cab.

See what Expedia says about this wonderful city.

And if you did not go for a Hot Balloon Trip, you did nothing in Canberra, that means I have done nothing in Canberra because our booking was canceled due to COVID-19

There is lot more to see but I don't want to waste your time anymore.

I hope you enjoyed reading my post.
