Drawing like a pro - 1, The Craft of Drawing

Hi Steemians!

I would like to talk to you about drawing.
I would like to share with you what I learned from my teachers, friends, from other artists, and why not from my own practice and studies as a painter or draftsman.
I would like to talk to you today about the importance of drawing because it is often valued as the little brother of the visual arts.
Drawing transcends all periods of human existence, art as we know it today is a direct consequence of the first drawings made by humans many thousands of years ago.

The drawing was the first form of communication, even before writing and it is still today the best way to represent something that we cannot do with words.
Have you thought about how important it is to draw in our daily lives? The chair you use, your pc or laptop, the car, the buildings, your house, your clothes, your shoes, etc, etc. everything starts as a drawing. And yet, drawing is undervalued, even by those who practice it.

From cave drawing to drawing as an art in itself there is a rich and interesting path.
The drawing has been used as a way to represent an idea or to make a study of a certain subject or to look for different ways of making a composition, but many great artists have gone further by making the drawing a work of art.

Thus, today we know many artists who have made drawing their way of artistic expression. To reach this stage it is necessary to take certain steps very seriously.
First of all, you must see drawing as a craft and learn the craft of drawing.
What does that mean? It means that you must learn to use the tools and materials to make your work more efficient and obtain better results.
For example, you must learn to hold pencils or know which paper best suits your goals.
You must learn how to avoid damage to your supports (often paper) or how to correct some mistakes made when you are drawing.
As important as this is knowing yourself, your ability to observe, your muscle memory, and what you have learned from the study.
You must learn to observe in all its aspects, establishing relations of size, luminosity, closeness, depth, etc.
Exercise is one of the most important aspects of muscle memory, but learning from the study is also very important, moreover, exercise without study is a great limitation and vice versa, study without practice does not mean any progress.
Knowing the properties of your materials and tools is also very important, if you know the qualities of your materials you will know their limits and advantages.
In future posts, I will develop some of these aspects. I hope you find them interesting.

Have a nice day!
