I hope you stay in good health. This week again I'm going to write about an ancient religious location in Sri Lanka.
I went their before 2 weeks. That is Uggal Aluth Nuwara Katharaga Devalaya. That temple is old for more than 600 years.
Ok, let's move to the post without further ado.
Uggal Aluthnuwara Kataragama Devalaya is an ancient Devalaya, situated in Uggal Aluthnuwara, Sri Lanka. Uggal Aluthnuwara
Devalaya was initially built in 1382 as Medagama Devalaya by a King named Suriya, according to recorded history. According
to legend, the term "King Suriya" alludes to King Bhuvanakabahu V (reigned 1374–1408) of the Gampola Kingdom, a member of
the Suriya family. The Devalaya was constructed by the king and dedicated to Kataragama Deviyo. However, 200 years after
the initial Medagama Devalaya's construction, a king by the name of Yapa Maharaja established the current Devalaya complex
and its connected buildings in 1582.
Uggal Aluthnuwara is not a Hindu temple. Not just a Buddhist temple. A combination of both is seen in the courtyard and
the beliefs and practices are combined in a wonderful way A sacred place that can be called an existing place.
Now I will line up the old parts of the temple. But unfortunately I will not be able share all photos of these old parts because
It was closed on the day I visited.
- Sacred objects kept in the Great Palace
- Old coins
- Ancient Stone "Gana" Deity Statue
- Although a temple was built after the collapse of the old Tampita temple, stone pillars are still visible in the old temple
- The ancient throne pavilion near the "Pattini" temple
- The stone wall of the well in the ruins of the main courtyard
I hope to travel there again for taking pictures of all the ancient & old items. If I travel again, I will share it again with you.
