WOX Travel Contest | Week 16 | Samanala Wewa Reservoir | 3% that save lives!

Hello Steemians!😎

How are you guys? Last 2 week I was not able to participate to this contest because of examinations. Luckily It was end.
Now I spend my vacation time. So I hope to share more articles during my vacation. In this time I'm going to tell you
about the trip to Samanala Wewa Reservoir. .Ok without further ado Let's move to the story,

Samanalawewa is located in the Uda Walawe Basin. It is a place where the Walawe River and Belihull Oya meet in the plains,
at a height of 400 meters (1,300 ft) above the mean sea level. It is located close to the town of Balangoda and 160 kilometers from the capital Colombo.

There are two ways to achieve this. Samanala Lake can be found after going a short distance on the Balangoda - Weli Oya
grant road and about 2 km from the Watawala junction. Also, it can be reached by taking the road from the Badulla - Balangoda
grant road to the Pambahinna junction on the road where the Pambahinna campus is located. Both these roads pass through Samanala
Lake Reserve. Be careful while traveling. Very uncrowded roads. Also, because elephants roam around, you should walk carefully.

Samanala Lake is primarily used for hydroelectric power generation in Sri Lanka. Samanalevawa project, authorized in 1992,
is the second-largest hydroelectric project in the country, producing 405 GWh of energy per year. It was built with financial
assistance from Japan and the United Kingdom. Due to a large water leak on the south bank, this became much talked about.

Despite the spill, power generation continues as planned, and the water released from the spill provides two-thirds of
the reservoir's water supply for down-river agriculture.

At present, special permission has to be obtained to visit this butterfly lake project. Photography is prohibited for security reasons.
But the beauty of nature can be seen well when traveling from here to this lake.

Surrounded by mountain ranges, the lake is seen from a distance with a different kind of beauty. And the sluice gates can be clearly seen.
After filling the tank, the sluice gates have been opened only twice so far.

I did not go to the dam but went to the lake bank and I am sharing those photos with you. The location is a perfect place for camping and feels like being in a desert country
