This is one of the chess/dama tables that are at Igorot Garden. These tables used to be crowded by men and boys watching players challenge each other. There would always be enthusiasts here early morning to late afternoon. When it rains especially hard, those who have brought chessboards with them would play under the overpass next to the park. It seems no rain can stop these guys from playing.
There is a cafe across the street of this park that I would waste my entire afternoon just watching the people, cars - just life in general happening outside the window. I get to observe these tables and the hobbyists who would spend their day here playing.
This was taken from another table.
Not only are there chess/dama tables at Igorot Garden but also at Burnham Park. There are probably more than a dozen tables like this at the park. However, I don't recall seeing park goers use these tables to play the game.
If only these tables can tell all the wins and losses or the stories shared by those who played here. Those would have been interesting and we can listen to them all day long.
