My interest for photography concluded in me joining a photography club. Our main goal was to challenge each other in taking photo´s a different way. We usually went out during the day for landscape photography, street photography and so on.

That's why some members decided to do it different this time. And headed out in the evening. At night, you look at a city very differently. The colours are different, there is less light and it looks more mysterious in my opinion.

The city we visited this time was Roermond, a city in the south of the Netherlands in the province of Limburg.

Roermond gets its name from river De Roer, which quietly ripples past all the visitors who visit this bustling city during daytime.
And right next to this river on the quay is the Saint Christopher cathedral. Beautifully lit, it stands out pontifically against the dark night sky.

Back in 1410, construction of this magnificent city monument began. The cathedral has withstood many disasters but still stands proudly. Fire in 1554, looting in 1572, a major storm in 1614, a bombing in 1945 and lastly an earthquake in 1992. These are just a couple examples of the tough times it has endured.

On a bridge above De Roer, I set up my tripod and set a long shutter speed. This causes, among other things, the red and white stripes across the road that runs alongside De Roer. Cars are unrecognisable but their lights draw colourful streaks through my photo.

But what I specifically wanted to capture in this picture was the reflection of the cathedral in the water.
Fortunately, the water was not flowing fast today, otherwise this reflection would never have become so beautiful.

If you are ever visiting my beautiful country don't forget to descend to the south of the Netherlands. Perhaps the most beautiful spot in all the country.

Many towns and villages that have a fascinating history to tell, plenty of water recreation and shopping opportunities.

Something to do, and see for everyone, it will not disappoint you.
